if the photo is good you dont need to edit at all, dont really know why everyone in here is getting obsessed with editing!
Sweet shot!

But editing can make a good shot into a brilliant shot, with minor adjustments.

true but not everything needs to be edited! sometimes a photo can have a better meaning raw!

Not a bad pic, but it lacks punch imo

So do you think that when developing film they don't make adjustments and that retouching is only something that digital users do?

Editing for me is just the final stage of taking a photo, the editing that most of us do is only what would have been done in the past, personally I can tell when shots have not been editied and they do tend to look a little flat when they haven't, of course you can increase saturation, contrast etc. in the camera, but is this not also editing the image, but just letting the camera do it instead of doing it later in photoshop?

Dont get me wrong I do edit my photos too, I agree and know it can do major improvment sometimes! what I meant was recently in here every one who takes photos next thing they think about is what if I knew how to edit them! and thats not photography! some photos should be left alone as they look cool the way theyve been shot!
Perfect example: The untouched version of this photo in this thread I think looks better than the one above my head.

and thats not photography!

Sometimes I wish we could all go back to using film. It would be easier for people to understand..

PS is a digital darkroom. Every photo should be edited (developed) in some shape or form. It could be in such a subtle way as to remove a black speck or slightly boosting the saturation. OR you could go to the other extreme and completely manipulate an image.

If you can't ('you' in general) understand how important editing is then you have to accept that your photos are going to remain average../flat....

I guess because the word ''edit'' is being used people will assume you are covering mistakes and that it is cheating.

Develop/development seems to be a more appropriate word to use...

Becuase it has been edited poorly. Simplicity is the key to success and all that..

A few little adjustments can make the difference. That took all of 4/5 mins. Levels/up the blacks %/contrast/Burn shading/heal out unwanted bits (top light for 1)/Saturation/exp/gamma..

I edit in my own way so some people will not agree with the way I have done things..(I don't use curves for a start..)

R3D agree with you completely there.

I edit every single picture that gets uploaded to this site, it is subtle but gives the image punch and makes it stand out.

Digital cameras take photos that are a little flat as you normally get better results from processing the shot in Photoshop rather than letting the camera do the processing for you.

Not being rude, but I would of probably deleted that......The pose doesn't look great and she is under exposed.

You might be able to sort it out but I don't think it would make it a good photo.

Def not worth spending loads of time on it
