As a Londoner who rarely strays outside the M25 I didn't really know what to expect from Cardiff. The lineup was good, Kenny Dope (one half of Masters at Work) was headlining and a glitzy and glamorous crowd was expected for the Bank Holiday party.

The night didn't start too well. It was pissing with rain and the doorstaff didn't seem to give a shit about the poor clubbers getting drenched outside. Luckily we were straight in, only to find the reason for the wait.....an over zealous drugs search designed to take ages and not find anything. The cloakroom was also a disaster zone with hangers having run out by 11.30. We weren't even allowed to queue up for jackets cos there were too many people waiting, the result was hundreds of guests walking round the club carrying their wet jackets!

By 1am we had got rid of all the excess baggage and night began. Kenny was playing the small room upstairs to warm up. It was a nice mixture of Funk and House with loads of classic remixes.

By the time Kenny made his way down to the main room the house tunes were banging out. Suitably funky and soulful, it was spot on. He saved some of the best tracks of the year till the last half an hour of the night and the dancefloor went nuts.

The end of the night arrived too soon and we really weren't ready to go home. 4am was quite an early finish for us, and there are no afterparty clubs in Cardiff as we've come to expect in London. Nonetheless it was a great night and all the hassle at the beginning of the night seemed far away. Overall, apart from the poor organisation, the night had great music and a very good looking crowd (as you will see from my photos) so well worth the trip out of the big smoke.
