IHDS: An album that peeks into the global hard dance scene

This article is about Bionic, Atmosphere, Hindsight & IHDS @ Millennium Music Hall in Cardiff (UK), Fri 05 Nov 2010

It’s been eagerly anticipated by many on the hard dance circuit, and finally an album that caters to the international hard dance scene as a whole. If you like the tougher sound of trance and a darker twist on the UK scene, then the new IHDS complilation might just be something you’ll enjoy. Bringing together tracks from Japan, U.K, Italy, Holland, and Germany and even an entry from across the pond to represent the US.

IHDS (International Hard Dance Sessions) is the brainchild of UK label manager Phil York alongside the Netherlands hard dance giant Fausto.

Phil York - “Myself and Fausto we're getting tired of the lack of good hard dance and with hardstyle blowing up worldwide we thought it was time to set up a project to show all sides of hard dance in one project and how diverse it can be!”

A far cry from the UK hard dance sound, and also not lending itself too much to full on marching hardstyle (for those of you hardstyle haters), this album places itself comfortably in it’s own classification that make it worth a listen to any fan of harder music.

The whole album brings together hard dance built for the big sound systems and is kept at a modest pace for hard dance, building from around 142 to 150bpm across each of the two mixes. A choice combination electronic sounds with many of the sounds you would associate with modern trance / tech trance being utilised in a harder way make this album somewhat of an eye opener to a market that we in the UK may only get glimpse into from time to time. Overall a well balanced mix with some techno-edged stompers, a few uplifting moments, and some darker bits for good measure.
