We have been waiting for ages and hopin it was going to happen.We waited a little bit longer and it didnt happen we were nearly in the depths of despair but as the sun set on the 1st of February something was in the cold night air which suddenly set us all tingling.From out of the dark damp Derbyshire night air came The Awakening a night of pure Drum and Bass at Chesterfield's newest and only alternative nightscene Erotica situated on Marsden Street.The venue itself is a bit out of the town center but the owner told me that he likes it like that as he caters solely for the alternative scene and it doesn't attract the usual run of the mill townie's.A venue in which the Dj's play something other than the usual townie music which you can hear being played time and time again even in the newest of Chesterfield's nightclubs.It was like a breath of fresh air and now gives us all something to look forward to each week.
With only a few day's to promote the event the first night went well but the venue was short on numbers but I have no doubt this will definitely change over the coming weeks as more promoting is done and the word gets around.However having said that those that did attend had a cracking night as the atmosphere was really good.The bar prices was quite reasonable and the owner has told me the more people that attend the better promotions he can put on.
The music was excellent and Dj Roonski who is going to be the event's resisdent Dj soon had the floor bouncing with lots of liquid bass,,jazz bass and jungle.Even some of Derbyshire's other top Dj's attended just ot check it out and were well impressed.Dj Roonski did have his work cut out though as the venue doesn't have turntables only CD mixing decks due to the venue having an original sprung floor which would of course cause the needles to be flung into outer space especially when the dance floor is full.The owner did tell me that he is looking to resolve the issue of the turntables by having the whole of the Dj stand rebuilt incorporating a special stand for turntables ( bet the vinyl Dj's can't wait for that).
Having said all that everyone who attended seemed to have a quite enjoyable night and everyone I spoke to said they would definitely be back again next week.I know that me and my friends will definitely be going back as I can see The Awakening being one of the best night's on the Derbyshire scene.
