This article is about Dance For Life @ The Glasshouse in Coventry (UK), Fri 15 Dec 2006
On Friday 15th December (9pm -4am) the second Dance For Life event takes place at the Glasshouse, with a special christmas party in aid of Cancer Research UK. Admission is £4 with all proceeds going towards Cancer Research UK.
There are a number of reasons as to why I have chosen to support Cancer Research UK. Firstly I have qualified as a physiotherapist and as part of my degree I undertook a number of work placements that have involved working with cancer victims which allowed me to see the full extent of this horific disease. But what really hit home was when my own mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. This means that there is nothing they can do to cure the cancer. After a 2 year battle with the disease my mother eventually died in October. This was two years where my mother gradually got more and more ill until she could no longer do anything but lie in bed with the highest dose of morphine possible to try and reduce some of the pain. It is this what has really inspired me to try to do something to help prevent other people from having to endure these sufferings.
CANCER RESEARCH UK
By helping cancer research UK then it is possible for research to be carried out to help develop treatments for cancer, and hopefully result in a decrease in the number of deaths caused by cancer. Cancer Research UK also provides invaluable information to cancer victims.
DANCE FOR LIFE
You have all seen the adverts for Race For Life, well I guess that the average person is not to keen on getting up at some stupid time in the morning and going on some ridiculously long run. However what I figure is that most people are keen on going out, having a good time, having a drink, listening to good music and strutting their stuff on the dancefloor, so I figured why not go out and have a good time whilst raising money for charity!
This idea proved to be a massive success first time around back in May when the Glasshouse was packed out and over £800 was raised for Cancer Research UK. Hopefully that success can be repeated and with it being at a festive time of the year, and with that Friday also being the last day of term at Coventry university it looks set to be another night to remember!
Once again there will be a varied music policy from a number of diferent DJs including Paul Morrell, who is about to have his remix of trance classic 'Take Me Away' by 4-Strings released on Nebula records, Mark Andrews who was the former resident DJat the glasshouse, Dannyboy and Lamby who have both played at 'Bounce 2 This' one of the biggest and best hard house nights in the country and Harmeet Padam who will be making his first ever public appearance. There may also be a couple more DJs, however at the moment I am awaiting confirmation. I will also be DJing although my mixing wont have improved much since last time, although no one seemed to care!
Because of this music policy there is something for anyone who likes dance music, starting off with funky and electro house, progressing onto trance, before finishing with banging hard house carrying on through till 4am. I think it is this variety that made the night such a success and what was great to see was people from all sorts of different backgrounds and styles all getting on and just having a good time!
