DJ X, aka Lez Elston, was one half of legendary and award winning Lab4. A classically trained guitarist Lez studied music and obtained Grade 8 Associated Board Theory. He was taught by composer and concert pianist Mervin Dale who co-wrote for Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan among many others. He taught guitar practical and theory from 21.
Lez's career has focused around alternative and electronic music and production. He formed his first band Atomic in 1987. Atomic showcased for all the major record labels. CBS, Island, EMI etc and received a development deal from Polydor. In 1989 Lez left Atomic to play in various rock, goth and alternative bands. In 1990 he formed MAD with Richard Curtis (vocals) and Adam Newman (drums) - MAD played various gigs in London and Oxford.
Life long influences (artists that have had the greatest and most enduring effect on Lez): Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Al Di Meola - Friday Night In San Francisco (life changing album), John Mclaughlin, NIN, Yngwie Malmsteen and any artist who isn't scared of pushing the envolope.
