DREAMS & MIRACLES CHARITY
Dreams & Miracles is a charity set up by Angela and Francesca Martone, both of whom suffer from Crohn’s Disease, which affects the digestive & nervous systems.
Francesca's illness has caused her to lose part of her bowel and she is still very ill, Angela is blind, diabetic, has suffered from a stroke, has had blood clots in the heart and has lost some of the use of her legs and hands which makes it very difficult for her to walk. The whole nervous system in her body is slowly shutting down day by day and the pain is very extreme so she has to take a lot of medication.
The aim is to raise money to help and cure Angela and Francesca's illnesses by going for stem cell transplants in the only clinic in Europe that does this procedure, in Germany. They have to raise over £25,000 to pay for the procedures & top-up treatments.
The stem cell transplant is quite simple, they extract the stem cells from the bone marrow in the body, they separate the good cells from the bad cells and inject them back into the body to start the treatment working. The results they are hoping for in Angela’s case is for the stem cell to be successful with her neuropathy, first to reduce the pain and to bring back the feeling in her legs and hands, making her able to walk properly again, then every six months she will go back to Germany for a top-up of stem cells to help her other complications such as her diabetes, her eyesight and basically giving her some of her life back.
They have applied for a registered charity number but this is still in the process of being set up, so at the moment the Scottish Charity Regulator has set up a bank account for them to keep the donations in. At the moment they have raised £3,500 so they are on their way, but they need a lot of help if they are going to raise enough money to afford the treatment.
