This article is about Absolute @ Studio 24 in Edinburgh (UK), Fri 02 Mar 2007
1. You’re originally from the US of A, what kind of influences brought you into the trance scene and the EDM scene in general?
I started out with electronic stuff liking the Prodigy’s 'Experience' and 'Jilted' albums, as well as Moby’s 'Everything Is Wrong'. As time went on it became a bit easier to get dance CDs and albums in the States, as well as see European DJs out in clubs. That worked out well as DJs like Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, and Tiesto invaded the New York scene and really captivated tons of clubgoers including myself.
2. You are currently based in Switzerland, what brought this on?
Well, my now-wife is Swiss J, we had met while I was working in Germany. Plus a position with Moonman Production Studios based here in Switzerland made actually living here a logical move.
3. You recently got a taste of Scotland and played Inside out on NYE! How was that?
Awesome. I only wish I could have been there way earlier... My flight got diverted to Manchester and had to bus it for the 4 hrs from there to Glasgow, so I arrived about 2 hrs late. The vibe of the party was second to none, so I can only hope next time I get to be there longer than 3 hours J. The weather gods better chill out!
4. Absolute are extremely pleased to have you in Edinburgh, are you looking forward to playing and visiting the city?
If the clubbers are just like how they were in Glasgow, I am MORE than excited to be playing there! Really looking forward to seeing that same Scottish energy and enthusiasm again.
5. You recently completed your first gigs in Asia, what kind of experience did you come with after playing there for the first time? After the 2 nights in Indonesia, I must say that was such a pleasant and extreme surprise. They really know their tracks there, and the scene seems to be this sleeping giant only now opening its eyes. Clubbing-wise I’d even say this is one global hotspot we should all keep out eyes on.
6. After the massive success of numerous productions, how are you coping with the demands of your production and DJing schedule being as busy as it is?
Yeah, its not too bad. Having a laptop when not here is actually a big help lately, and allows me to have projects started up when just killing time in my hotel.
7. What productions do you have in the pipeline, any in particular exciting you?
Well 'Drop' will be the next Discover single shooting I think for an April release. But over the whole year 2007, I really find myself wanting to search for new sounds, as it is sorely needed. But the trick here will be to maintain the same energy level and not deviate from that. Of course I want to make sure everything attempts to go right for the gut!
8. Are there any producers new or old out there floating your boat at the minute?
John O'Callaghan, Carl B, Kai del Noi, and I just sit back as I watch how quickly Bryan Kearney is coming into his own at lightning speed.
9. Where do you see yourself going musically this year?
Ah, as I said above, making some new sounds (at least for me, what IS new these days?) and using them in newer tracks. Also looking into cutting some full vocal tracks. That should be the main thing this year. Making tracks that function just as good as dubs as their vocal version counterparts, because of course, sometimes a vocal track is just not the right move and vice versa, during a set.
10. When not making or playing Dance, what does a typical day off entail?
Day off? What’s that? J
