Simon Patterson Interview

Its been a year since we last spoke with Simon Patterson... stv clubs caught up with the trance master to find out more about future projects, Ibiza plans and those Dogzilla rumors....

It's been almost a year since we last spoke with you... What have you been up to since then?
Yo!! How are ya?

I've just been busy in the studio and traveling around a lot. Just got back from touring OZ with Sean Tyas which was unreal! Its been a good year since we last spoke!

You told stv clubs last May to watch out over the summer for your track Bulldozer... How did it feel to have one of the biggest tracks of 2007?

It was really great that Bulldozer connected the way it did. The reactions from me playing it in my DJ sets was incredible so i knew when it was going to come round for promotion that it would do pretty well in lots of djs sets. I didn't expect it to be as popular as it was.

Were you surprised with the success of the track?

Yeah i was cause i didn't spend that long on it. But its always the way! The ones you spend all the time on dont connect like the ones you just rocket through.

What new projects are you working on?

I have a new track with Sean Tyas coming out in August with a track that i did called Us on the B Side. I am really happy with both tracks. And then i need to get a vocal tune finished that i have been working on for ages.

Your new track Smack is another belter... When is it due for release?

Its actually out now! Available on Beatport.com.

Some very sad news now... stv clubs understands Dogzilla is soon to be no more? Tell us more…

Well its not that its going to be no more cause we will still do tracks together. Were currently doing one now. Its just that i need to branch away from it. I am still tagged as Dogzilla and i am not Dogzilla. I dont play much of that sound in my DJ sets and its frustrating for clubbers who come to see me play and then i dont play what they expect. I just want to concentrate on my own identity and keep Dogzilla separate.

What's been the best part of working with Richie Kayvan?

He is the most gifted musically and his production is amongst the best i have heard. I cant speak highly enough of him. I have always said he should be producing for the likes of U2.

Are you planning to release one last tune before you both go your separate ways?

Like a said, we are working on one right now which is the strongest musically yet. Richie is so busy and so am i and getting into the studio together is hard. So thats why it takes so long for each Dogzilla release to come around.

Every time you play you must get endless clubbers requesting Without You... Do you ever get sick of playing it?

I have heard it so many times. Its a very special tune for me cause Richie wrote a beautiful piano piece for my wedding which is the chords of Without You with lovely pianos. I play this in my sets sometimes and when i play it i love it all over again. Its just too cliche for me to play it. I guess the same way for Paul Van Dyk and his track For An Angel.

Ibiza is only a few months away now... What are your plans?

I will be back at Judgement Sundays again this year which i always love playing. In general i cant wait for the summer. The overall vibe is just what its all about!
