SCOTT BROWN
(Evolution Records)
myspace.com

The legend returns to Twisted & Brainfire, Edinburgh. Scott Brown has been and is today the most indemand dj in the scene. Scott has produced music on his own record labels (Evolution Records, Evolution Plus, Evolved, Poosh, Screwdriver and Twisted Vinyl), and under a range of monikers including Plus System, Interstate, Bass-X (with his brother Stewart), and chart topping band Q-Tex since 1990.

After causing mayhem on the dancefloor at our last packed Edinburgh outing it would be rude not to ask Scott back again. You know its goin down when Scott brown's in your town.

KEVIN ENERGY
(Nu Energy Collective / Freeformation)
myspace.com

Nu Energy Collective head honcho, Kevin Energy is firmly established as a DJ in the top echelon of both the Hardcore and Harddance scenes, with bookings the length and breadth of the UK and all around the World. Whether it be his blistering Hardcore Heaven + Elevate CD mixes, his explosive technically tight DJ sets at HTID, Frantic, Slammin Vinyl and Sundissential or even his rave rockin production work, Kevin always manages to balance a pacey, instantly uplifting energy with a forward thinking approach that pushes back the boundaries of Hardcore and Harddance.

Kevin was one of the main players in the scene to push Hardcore in a new direction of Trancecore and Freeform and today holds a high position in the scene. Twisted & Brainfire are very excited to have Kevin making his Twisted & Brainfire debut at this event.

BASS GENERATOR
(Fantazia / BTTF)
myspace.com

The Geordie nutter Bass Generator makes his return to the capital. A firm favourite in the Hardcore seen back in the day, Bassy-G has played every major event in the Scotland including Slammin Vinyl, Rezerection, Fubar, Nosebleed, and of course his own Judgement Day events. OPHIDIAN (NL)
(Enzyme Records / Meta4)
DIRECT FROM THE NETHERLANDS

Ophidian or Conrad to his friends started making music and mixes in 1993, just 11 years old at the time. By the age of 16, one of his biggest influences DJ Ruffneck signed him to his labels and as they say ... the rest is history. Over the last 5 years since the release of his defining "Black Box" release on Enzyme, Conrad has continued to push the boundaries in Hardcore in many different directions including more experimental music through his own Meta4 label, while still being able to produce his emotional version of the Dutch Hardcore Sound.

Twisted & Brainfire who brought Ophidian who is no one of the most respected artists from Holland to the UK for his debut back in 2004 are delighted to bring him back to the Darkside, Edinburgh!

THE DJ PRODUCER
(RebelScum / DeathChant / Bangface)
myspace.com

Luke McMillan, a.k.a The DJ Producer has been a name synonymous with the U.K. underground rave/techno scene for the last 14 years. His passion for high powered, super precise, rapid beat mixing stems from his early passions of Electro and Hip Hop.

Luke's career has gone from strength to musical strength, and as the music evolved, Luke really began to carve his name into the UK rave scene as one of the first mainstream 'Hardcore Techno' dj's in the UK. From 1994-1997/1998 Luke became a permanent fixture in the Hardcore Techno rooms at raves like Helter Skelter "Technodrome", Dreamscape, Vibealite, North, Nosebleed and Rezerection.

Nowadays The DJ Producer's career as gone somewhat more Global with massive releases on labels like Deathchant, Third Movement, Planet Mu and of course his own RebelScum. Luke is also a frequent fixture at events like Bangface (UK) and Thunderdome (NL). T&B are looking forward to him taking the temperature up a notch in the Darkside Area.

SCOTT BROWN (Neophyte Records)
(Twisted Vinyl - Gabber Set)

Scott brown was one of the first producers in the UK to make Gabber, with many releases and remixes on from day one til now on his own Twisted Vinyl and dutch labels like Mokum (as Annihilator), Babyboom (as Scotchman) Rotterdam Recs, and Neophyte. Apart from being a massive name in the UK, Scott is Scotland's undisputed biggest Hardcore export often playing Hardcore Gabber at raves like Nightmare, Defqon-1, In Quontrol, Masters Of Hardcore, Dominator and many more.
Scott will be playing a Darkside Hardcore Gabber set and have the dancefloor moving

A PROMINENT Edinburgh nightclub which runs under-18 events has had its licence suspended after police were called more than 40 times in the space of a year.
The city's licensing board unanimously voted to take the action against Studio 24 in the wake of a string of complaints about noise and under-age revellers.

The Calton Road club has been officially closed down until at least the end of August. How
ever, bosses are set to appeal the ruling, allowing it to continue to operate in the meantime.

Councillors were told yesterday how in one incident pupils from Barnton's Royal High School hired the venue for a Hallowe'en party after telling club owners that teachers would be attending.

The club's bar was open for the first hour until it became apparent the event was not sanctioned by the school and around 50 teenagers were later refused entry after failing "breathalyser" tests.

A council licensing official present at the party also reported seeing revellers leaving Studio 24 covered in blood, although club bosses pointed out this was part of their fancy dress costume.

Other concerns raised by the council's licensing standards officers over the last 18 months include a poor attitude from door staff, lax controls on searching revellers and poor stewarding of under-18 events at the club.

Officials also received a number of complaints about noise from residents of nearby flats built around the 25-year-old club in recent years. This is despite club bosses locking away its amplifiers so only management have access to the volume controls.

Licensing convener Marjorie Thomas revealed the suspension would have been longer had it not been for the fact the club's licence was up for renewal in August.

Tom Stirling, an environmental protection manager for the council, said: "In addition to the noise complaints, there are issues with under-age events, and the attitude of door staff towards our licensing standards officers.

"There does seem to be a reoccurring theme with these premises where action is taken, things are okay for a short time and then the problems reoccur."

Police chiefs revealed there had been 40 incidents in the last year, more than half of which related to under-age events, though only five were deemed serious.

Councillor Alistair Paisley told the club operators: "It appears that it is only when there is any danger to your licence that you seem to pick up your game.

"The licensing standards officers are there to help the licence trade and any trouble they have received for doing their work is simply an abomination."

Councillor Norman Work added: "This has been going on for some time now, I thought it was just a noise issue but it seems there is more to it than that."

In 2006, Studio 24 was forced to spend £40,000 soundproofing its premises to stay open after more than 1,500 city clubbers backed a campaign to save the nightspot.

Neighbours – who live in homes built adjacent to the club over the last four years – said they were being kept awake by antisocial behaviour from revellers.

Gillian McArthur, whose family owns and runs Studio 24, said: "We have taken a lot of steps to try and deal with the issues raised.

"As a result of the Royal High incident we have stopped taking private bookings and I would like to apologise for the attitude of our door staff to the council staff.

"But we have not had a serious incident in the club for over 12 years.

The people who come to our club know they are safe."
