This article is about BOOMBOX PRESENTS FERGIE @ The Liquid Room in Edinburgh (UK), Sat 29 Nov 2008
Fergie has been, in his own words, 'a slave to the rave' for the last 10 years. A loyal servant to electronic dance music, who, at just 27 years old has spent over half of his short life in clubs and experienced more in his career as a DJ / Producer / Radio presenter / than many double his age.
How would you describe your sound at the moment? My sound at the moment, and in fact over the past 6 or 7 years has been more towards the more tech side of things, but I like to keep mixing it up so a bit of house and prog but the majority of my set would a bit tougher and more down the techno road.
You've obviously been lucky enough to have such a legendary mentor as Tony in your life, who at the moment would you say you respect the most or dare we say look up to within dance music? Well yeah I met Tony at a very early age in my life so it was a very exciting time and great to be able to travel round the world with not only one of the biggest djs of the era but also someone who’s records I was buying before i met him. When i was younger I was always a big Carl Cox fan and i still am to this day, i love the energy he brings to his sets and also I like the fact that he also changed music along the way.
How is your Excentric empire developing? Yeah it’s been going very well, hard work but its worth it. We have the label which has been going great. We are just getting ready for a massive 10 single release…. I’m having some of my music remixed, King Unique, Slam, Pig & Dan, Umek, and also the guys on the Excentric Agency are doing their first traks…. so its al about mixing the new guys with the old pros if you like. I think it is a good balance and it’s also great for the guys on the agency to get on the same vinyl as the bigger guys.
Regarding the Excentric parties they are going great, we have parties in the Ice Factory ( Perth ) The Thelka ( Bristol ) the Custard Factory and the Rainbow Warehouse ( Birmingham ) and we’re going back out to Ibiza for the second summer with Excentric so its all good, who knows we might be up in Edinburgh next year wink wink nudge nudge :)
The agency is moving along nice also, all they guys are quite busy and playing in Europe and further afield for the first time so its all very exciting for them.
You have 'Lost in Music' tattooed on your stomach, many people hold music so close to there heart and put much importance in it, what 3 tracks make you forget about the outside World and get you 'Lost in music'? Oh that’s a hard one. I never want to forget about the outside world as it is life and I love the vibe that you get when things are very busy for you or the chilled efx when your having some down time, and you cant have one with out the other. I have always been into Queen so anything by them really, I just love Freddie Mercury he was a true performer. I also love Deepech Mode Enjoy the Silence, and also the Joy Division Love will Tear us Apart, or any thing of the Leftfield, Leftisum dear god that’s a hard question there is so much great old music...
Top 5 all time dance tracks? slam, positive education. lionrock, pacet of peace. 99th floor elevators, hooked ( tony de vit mix ) gatdecor, passion. joey beltram, energy flash
Current top 5 tracks? john digweed & nick muir, aquatic, ( alan fitzpatrick mix ) bedrock reset robot, softie. excentric muzik. unkel, troubel in paradise, ( fergie mix ) surrender fergie, senderoff, ( slam mix ) excentric muzik dubfire & oliver huntemann, dios, cocoon
Which non-dance track would you most like to remix if you could? I would love to remix Positive Education by Slam, or Pacet of Peace by Lionrock
Which artist would you most like to collaborate with? I have started a project with Alan Fitzpatrick who I think is going to be massive in the future, and also my partner in the studio Dave Robertson ( reset robot ) so I’m excited to see what music we come up with so I’m happy with this situation at the mo. We have done 3 traks and we’re planning 3 eps so I will be playing what we have done so far when I’m at the gig in Edinburgh
Your playing Edinburgh soon, your no stranger to the city, what can the crowd expect? That’s right I have played Edinburgh a few times over the years, I always have a great gig up with you guys. i had a great time when i was up at the start of the year. I have never played the Liquid Room so I’m looking for big things as I’ve heard lots of great reports I have tons of un released music so it will be ace to unleash that on the Edinburgh massive.

Edinburgh’s premier electro-trance & tech-trance night takes things in a slightly different musical direction as we welcome former Radio One star Fergie to the capital. Fergie last rocked Edinburgh back on Easter Sunday as Musika and Boombox went head to head, he returns this time under the Boombox banner to help us say goodbye to The Liquid Room for 2008. For Fergie the recent summer has been just about his best yet and the Irish DJ and production star has moved through 2008 like an inferno, setting fire to dance floors, productions and remixes whilst continuing to build the Excentric label into a seriously respected global player. From being asked to work with James Lavelle to playing the famed Boxing Day set at Pressure this winter, through to conquering many parts of the globe and still finding time to release some devastatingly good tracks, it’s amazing Fergie finds time to do anything else. Support on the night comes from our resident DJ team Jason Cortez and Dean Newton plus Compakt's Jamie Kidd and Kirk Douglas.
