Just the One? catch up with Bushwaka! ahead of his 070707 festival debut:

So how did you and Layo become a DJ partnership?

We started working together in Mr C's recording studio and began to record together. We then formed the trio known as the end sound system with Mr C. Eventually we branched off and became the duo Layo and Bushwaka!

Where did your name come from?

Paul RIP who used to do A&R for Plink Plonk (Mr C's label) came up with the name for me when I was working for them.

Although you are known as international artists, in London most people would associate with the end. How did your residency there come about?

We used to play at a night called Subterrain from the beginning of the End. Then after a long while DJing together we started our own night called All Night Long, which is now called Olmeto after our label name.

What are you guys up to production wise at the moment?

We are currently writing new 12 inch dance tracks and producing our Global Underground Mix CD.

Do you prefer playing at club nights of festivals?

Both, if they are rocking!

What is your favourite venue in the world??

The End, Warung in South Brazil and Womb in Tokyo.

What have been your most memorable moments at those clubs?

Too many to mention!!! And that’s the truth!

What was the first gig you ever played?

When I was 14, I played a non-alcoholic disco for under 16s in the basement of a church called 'The Parrot and Palm'

How did it go?

Ok I guess!

What are you looking forward to most about this coming summer?

Playing a 7 hour set at the end of July and also my birthday party in Ibiza!
