Hi guys... just thought i'd add my two pence worth...

Went to Flares in Guildford last weekend. I am usually a strickly hard dance man only but was staying with some mates and got dragged along. To be honest i was expecting stilton and brie and really was not looking forward to it. I honestly was blown away. The atmosphere was brilliant, the staff were all friendly (as well as stunning, especially the manageress) the drinks were cheap and most of all every one was out for a good night. Didn't see one bit of trouble and everyone had smiles on their faces....

Keep up the good work guys i for one will definatly be back.

I went to flares and it was nothing but full of old men and old woman! Been there once, and thats cos I was dragged, never again! Bring back Edwards!!!

Yeah if you go to flares you've gotta expect the cheesey music, but it still doesn't make it any good.

When you get dragged out cos your mates like it then you haven't got much choice!!

The old pervy men don't help, nor does the fact that the DJ seems to think he's god, even though he spends all the time propping up the bar whilst his computer plays the music LMAO!!

As for the lack of trouble, every time I walk past the place there seems to be either an ambulance or a police van outside!!!!

What makes the place a shit hole is not JUST the music....it's the whole package....!

Oh yeah, and the bar staff are sooo grumpy, can't blame them tho working in that place...

We all have different taste's but Flares definately isn't for me! I like to go to a bar with younger people, more my age! What are them silly dances (if you could call it dancing!) the staff do like every hour or something? I mean what's that about? Shame Flares replaced Edwards!! Some people might like Flares but for me . . . Im def not going there again!

I do feel sorry for the dj's though! My bfriend is a dj, (not in flares, I'd like to add!) and he gets so much crap off people when he doesn't play THEIR song & so many people take their s**t night out on him, and my boyfriend doesn't even dj 60's/70's cheese! I reckon thats why the dj booth in flares is so high, so no-one can get to them, lol!!!!

I LOVE Flares!!! Its the only place in Guildford anyone can go and get their groove on without worrying what they look like. Its not cool, its not trendy but its also not pretentious and doesn't try to be cool or trendy!! Its a 70's club and thats what they do well.

No 70's club is done well. It's a contradiction in terms.

Again guys, it's supposed to be fun, the dancing, the music, the way the night is run is all done that way as it's supposed to be fun!
If you happened to be served by a member of bar staff who's having a bad day then yes, that’s not great, but I’m sure it's happened to you in other places too. It's a bit unfair to use that as a reason to say you don't like the place.
The DJ is encouraged to spend as much time out of the booth as possible; in fact, they are no DJ's in Flares. There’s entertainers that host the night and if you look at any iconic film made or set in the 70's that has a DJ in it you'll see that all the DJ's in the films did think they were gods, so the guys working there are just trying to get into character. It’s all part of the Flares experience.
Now I know that it isn’t for everyone. To try and convince everyone that it is would be a waste of time. Everyone is entitled to there own option but as it sounds like you’re putting the place and the people who work there down for doing what they are supposed to be doing then I’m encouraged to post again and defend the hard working people at Flares.
I will endeavour to help correct any misunderstandings that people may have about the place but if you’ve decided it’s not for you then thank you for coming and trying the place out. Now you know that if you’re friends say they want to go to Flares then you can meet them after. (no one really gets dragged to a venue, anyone could say no thanks and go somewhere else).
One last thing, I was born in 1978 so I have no memory of any club apart from what I’ve seen in films, however some of the older generation that I know say that it’s just like a club they used to go to in the 70’s so, I’m sorry, it is a 70’s club done well.
The 70’s just aren’t for everyone…………………. but a lot of people love it!

Dj Jon . . . . .I think that was well said! I dont like flares but some people do. We all like different music,we all prefer to go to different places to other people. There's nearly always queues to get into flares, so that tells you, a lot of people in guildford do love it. So what if some people hate flares, as long as the staff, hosts and people in there have a good night, who cares who hates it?

PMSL....this is a clubbing website...Flares is not a club, it's a jumped up bar with some lit up squares on the floor....

Can't believe we've got "events" in Flares being posted on the same website as events headlined by best DJs in the world....

Dear Utopia,

I don’t even work at the venue but I feel the need to reply as your comment came as a surprise to me.
It’s obvious that you are a serious clubber. I can’t believe this one venue in Guildford causes you so much anger. I’m sure everyone who has been a part of this topic can clearly see you are not a fan of the venue but are you really going to try and put down the venue every time someone has something good to say about it?
“Life is there to be lived - don't find excuses to be miserable, you've only got one go so enjoy it”. I’m sure you recognise those words! I lifted it straight from your profile.
It makes you come across as a “live & let live” kind of person so it does surprise me how different to this your posts have been.
Do you complain when people post B’day pictures on DSI? Because surely if you’re complaining about a licensed venue putting events onto this website then that must wind you up too because how can they be on the same site as all the events posted that are “headlined by best DJs in the world....”?
Your opinion has been expressed so why do you feel the need to keep stamping it on anyone who might choose to read this?

Regards
Jon.

people know they will be playing the same 70 music mixed by the same dj's week in week out at every flares in the country. Whats the need to tell everyone about it again and again. Your wasting space for proper events by spamming the site with how your mixing every night at flares

LOL!! Who said I felt anger at flares??! Haha...

I don't feel anger at flares....pity perhaps, lol! But that's about it...

people know they will be playing the same 70 music mixed by the same dj's week in week out at every flares in the country. Whats the need to tell everyone about it again and again. Your wasting space for proper events by spamming the site with how your mixing every night at flares

That pretty much took the words out of my mouth...

As for birthdays, not got a problem in the least...they only happen once a year for each person...

I don't have a problem with flares being on DSI, I don't care enough to have a problem with it! I just find it mildly amusing and slightly incredulous...it's pretty much nothing more than a bar with a guy paid to press buttons on a jukebox!! That's not an event...

Ahh this thread has given me a good giggle!!

I think everyone is getting a little confused about what Flares is trying to be!! No-one has ever said that the DJ's in there are trying to mix and I have never heard any of the staff take the dancing seriously. All they are trying to do is give the club a good fun party atmosphere!! And I think they do an AWESOME job!!!! I have never had bad service in Flares!! All of the staff seem lovely...... have you ever thought that maybe if you are nice to them, they might be nice back?!?!

My office booked a party there recently and there were a lot of people who weren't really that keen on going but everyone did and not a single person had a bad night!! Where else can you go that you get greeted at the door, given free champagne and a party bag full of free gifts?!?! Every one enjoyed it so much and felt that they were looked after so well by the staff and DJ that they have booked another party there for the end of the month!!!

I'm not saying that Flares is the best club ever but I have NEVER been in there and not had a laugh. I think that everyone should just give it a chance!!!
