Having never been to Faces before I decided to go this evening with some friends. What an ill advised decision! My friends, having been to Faces regularly over the last 6 months, reassured me that my friend would be fine wearing smart lace-up trainers. My friend, having travelled from Birmingham to come out in Hoddesdon, trusted that this would be ok as few other clubs in the South East employ such dresscodes. How wrong I was. In the 7 years hat I have regularly been out on a Friday night across the South East, I don't think I have ever been treated with such disdain and disrespect by a pair of doormen. My friend was informed that he couldn't enter with his footweear, and when we tried to explain the situation the bouncers seemed to delight in reiterating the door policy of "no trainers". Furthermore they flat refused to let us speak with the manager, as it would have been "a waste of time" - a waste which my friend was quite prepared to make having spent most of the afternoon travelling from Birmingham.

I simply do not understand the rationale behind this type of dresscode, and find more and more that it is only provincial "clubs" which employ such ludicrous rules. Customer service seemed beyond the realms of comprehension for the doormen, and as a result I fear they have lost my trade forever and forced me to write such a damning comment.

In short, unless you are a pikey with smart shoes, don't go to Faces. Even if you've just shelled out £150 on a pair of Addidas Y-3s, your efforts will not be appreciated by the cretinous doorstaff. Steer well clear.

LOL, faces is good! I'm from west London and make the effort to go once every now and then, How many 'decent' clubs let you in with trainers!??!!?
