Music : All Music

Bukem and Conrad need little introduction. Arguably the prime innovator in the development of jungle from its early status as an offshoot of hardcore techno into the respected, stylistic genre it became by the end of the 1990s, L.T.J Bukem gained fame as an auteur in all fields of the drum'n'bass movement: as a top-flight breakbeat DJ, owner and label-head of the Good Looking/Looking Good stable of labels and, of course, for his recordings -- inspired by the lush strings and natural ambiance of '70s jazz-fusion masters like Lonnie Liston Smith and Chick Corea as well as Chicago house and moody Detroit techno.

Allied with the early-'90s rave and hardcore scene, Bukem began working on production near the end of the 1980s; though his light, airy sound made little sense to his contemporaries, Bukem's style was emulated much more as the jungle scene gained momentum during the mid-'90s. While such producers as Roni Size and Goldie gained the limelight for their solo work, Bukem purposely downplayed his own artistic career in favour of mix albums and label-spanning retrospectives which highlighted dozens of artists from his labels.

With support from Hospital's CYANTIFC,THE FOX, BARRINGTON, MORROCCO,CRACKERZ AND JAM and STICKY FINGERS it ensures that our music policy will be right across the board on the night -and we have made an extra effort to make sure that everyone will be catered for on our launch!

If you want to find out a bit more about about the Boogaloo Beats store, read on..................

BOOGALOO BEATS will be celebrating the opening of the much hyped and anticipated Record Store in spectacular fashion. In a day when record shops seem a thing of the past, and downloading music has taken control and effected the industry in catastrophic measures, BOOGALOO BEATS takes the bold step of re-introducing what many still believe to be a dj's best friend.........Vinyl! We have managed to get our palms on some absolute gems, including early releases by Rodger Sanchez, Kenny Dope and even a white label by the PRODIGY!!! New releases from various labels will also be stocked on a weekly basis.

The BOOGALOO BEATS record store will be showcasing some of the biggest names LIVE in the shop on a monthly basis, enabling to re-inact the nostalgia and feeling for those that are old enough to remember hanging around in cool record shops, and introduce to those who weren't.

The whole concept of the shop is to build and create something special for everyone who has genuine love for ALL music, and place Hitchin firmly on the map within the music industry. Located in the shop, we will have the "local heros corner" where we will be pushing all local producers, bands, acts, albums and singles. So if you feel you have something to offer for this, please email the store on the address below.

To add to the distictive qualities of the shop, we will also be an official outlet for the following fashion labels:

Chateaux Roux
Craig Marcus
New era flat caps

The shop will officially start trading on Saturday November 1st with special guests spinning in the store all throughout the day, so keep your eyes peeled to www.boogaloobeats.com for more info!!!!
