This article is about Project 7 @ TOKYO in Huddersfield (UK), Sat 01 Nov 2008

PROJECT 7 is a new and exciting clubbing brand that hit the streets of England in the Summer of 2008. Taking over venues all over England, Project 7’s aim is to put on 7 monster events in 7 different cities and to play the best house and techno from around the World. It will be a night that celebrates ground breaking music and the artists that supply the sounds, a carnival atmosphere to rival that of Ibiza, music to rival that of Berlin and beautiful people enjoying beautiful music. A roster of talented resident’s will bolster the headline acts to ensure a night and atmosphere to remember. The Project 7 boys have already conquered Birmingham (in association with Below) and Leeds (with Purrfect Electro) and they have enlisted the help of amazing leeds clubnight Mono_Cult to rock their next party.

Now a legendary night in the rocking party town of Leeds, 2008 sees mono_cult re-launch at The Faversham. Continuing in tradition they will be hosting a series of monthly Saturday / Sunday day parties leading up to the summer months. From September mono_cult will be every last Thursday of the month @ The Faversham........expect some exciting things! We caught up with the guys behind the night to find out what they've been up to and what they have planned for their visit to Project 7...

Mono_Cult - James Pollard

1. Mono_Cult is gaining a lot of momentum at the moment, both in Leeds and around the UK, how did it all begin?

It all began in March 2007. Myself and four mates decided to have a go at our own event as we all had the same vision of what we wanted for a clubnight. Our vision was a Sunday day time party in an obscure venue, with good music and great atmosphere. We created this at the Lounge then moved to the Faversham earlier this year, minus 2 of the original members.

2. You have a very varied range of DJ’s playing for you, what do you look for when making bookings?

Talent mainly! Also the exclusivety of a booking within Leeds. We all have the same likes and dislikes so we always agree on who we have on etc.

3. How do you find the crowd month to month? Do you have a strong regular following or are you constantly finding new circles gracing your doors?

We are probably the same as other nights in the sense that we have a following who were there from the start, but we also have a constant influx of fresh faces coming through door, especially now we have moved to a Thursday night and we are at the start of a new university year.

4. Do you have any plans to move Mono_Cult to pastures new or will your heart always be in Leeds?

No. Leeds will always be our home as we love it here. We have hosted our brand all over the place, playing in a host of clubs etc but no where has the same atmosphere as Leeds does.

5. There are a lot of exciting new nights continually starting up in the north, do you look at this as positive or negative?

It can be both really. On a positive, if people want to have a good go at doing this type of stuff then well played, but alot of people fall by the way side. At the moment there is everything going on in Leeds, almost too much as everyone is competing for the same market, which makes it harder and harder to fill the dancefloor every event. Your PR has to be spot on when everyone else is doing the same thing!

6. Who are your dream DJ’s to book for the night?

Personally, I would have someone like Ricardo Villalobos on for something obscene like 4hrs. Saying this at our last event, Rhadoo (DC10 Resident) played for us for 4hrs as he loved it so much and didnt want to come off! mono_cult is and always will be about the intelligent and relatively unknown bookings who come over and do a sterling job. We want to show people who does it for us, so they can enjoy them as much as we do.

7. Your involved with a new event called Project 7, can you tell us more about what this is? Why did you get involved?

Well, Im familiar with Project 7 as i went to University in Huddersfield for the last 4 years so i've heard all about it off numerous people. I have never actually been to a P7 event but i hear its ridiculously busy everytime, which is brilliant for a relatively new, er, project!

We got offered to do the last one but we had already been booked in Manchester the same night, but we wanted to be involved when we could and luckily they asked us again. Huddersfield is going from strength to strength and it seems they have hit the market with what it wants!

8. Where are you hoping to be this time next year as an event and how are you going to get there?

Erm, hopefully mono_cult will be bigger and better than ever with a huge following all over the UK, and internationally too. We already have strong links in Ibiza with Monza and We Love at Space, as well as a strong bond with our artists in Germany, made through our previous bookings. Our own record label will possibly follow early next year.

9. What should we be looking out for in the next few months both from your selves and from the scene as a whole?

Our next party is on 30th October at the Faversham in Leeds where we welcome HECTOR from Phonica Records in London. Its a halloween party so fancy dress is optional! We are doing another one off party on New Years Day again which is set to be another mental affair. Expect big DJ's and spot on banter!

On a business level, Im not too bothered about scene as i like to concentrate on what im doing with my party so it works well! But on a personal level i hope the scene stays strong and new and exciting things continue to make the weekends interesting!
