Ritmo founder Dan Doran hits the Lamp Terrace

This article is about Different Language presents Terrace Party @ Lamp in Hull (UK), Sun 27 May 2007

At the young age of sixteen Dan Doran discovered his unique talent for sparking an electric atmosphere with the aid of music. When he saw the reaction from an intimate gathering of friends while practicing on borrowed decks, he was captivated. In a few months Doran owned a set himself and within the year he was DJing at gigs around Hull and a friend's night. Quite an accomplishment for a teenager with college in the morning.

The movement to Manchester University opened new horizons. Having been fatally bitten by the party bug with house music infecting his blood, Dan Doran was unstoppable. In reaching the finals for all the DJing competitions he entered it became increasingly clear it was not just his hometown he could exhilarate and excite with his flair at the decks. Soon Doran was a household name amongst the students in Manchester after blowing the roof off of parties around the city.

Not content with conquering the younger crowd of Manchester, Dan won respect with a larger audience at gigs such at The Bar on Deansgate Locks and later at, 'Today', an event for Cancer Research.

The DJ quickly gained speed and a following, soon being approached by the likes of 'Tidy' and the well-renound club, Sankeys, where he continues to play alongside some of the biggest names in the business.

Within a musical minute Doran's reputation for the ability to switch on a crowd was securing him gigs and playing alongside the likes of Tom Neville at OHM. More recent gigs include Club North's 'Sextoy' and together with Fergie, 'NTS' at Zone.

Never one to let the energy sag, behind the decks or in his career, Dan began his own night, Ritmoloco. What began as a flash of inspiration with friends in the early hours after a night's hedonism soon became a massively popular event, continually hosting big name DJs and an extremely vivacious crowd. Manchester's musical mob promptly demanded more than just a monthly helping of the mayhem, so the Ritmoloco clan expanded with an additional weekly night, Ritmorevolution.

Doran does not just play sensational records; he also produces them. With forthcoming releases on Monumental records, Dan will soon be able to ignite a crowd in more ways than one.

Opening the New Year with a set at Sankeys, Dan started 2007 with as much energy as he persistently upholds. Having been recently signed to Fergie's Excentric Artists, and with plans to be an Ibiza resident this coming summer, along with preparations to dominate the radio waves, Dan Doran's biggest problem is finding a spare moment in his bookings diary to party just as hard as his crowd do.
