This article is about Different Language Bank Holiday Party @ the Lamp with Richard Seeley (veryverywrongindeed / Juicy Vermin) and surprise special guest @ Lamp in Hull (UK), Sun 04 May 2008
We are moving on but our parties are to get even better. We have lined up more Bank Holiday craziness for May and August but to say farewell to the Lamp we welcome RICHARD SEELEY from Tim Sheridan’s massive VERYVERYWRONGINDEED camp. Richard has had a huge impact with his first EP with solid support from DJs such as Steve Lawler (Harlem nights), Andrew Grant (Circo Loco), Tim Sheridan (veryverywrongindeed) and Mike Monday (Playtime).
Here’s an introduction to our special guest…
Richard played house parties and DJ comps and clasped at anything to do with putting a party on or being able to DJ at one. He didn't really take it seriously until October 2004 when he and a few mates set up a house music event in their town, 'Juicy Vermin'.
The concept was simple, underground house, not your average funky get up. It went from strength to strength holding events in Poland, Cyprus and here in the U.K. the parties are still happening to this day. Check out www.juicyvermin.com
Rich has played in Lodz (Poland) @ OIOM Klub and has also been lucky enough to have played at Egg, Turnmills, The Key, Rhythm Factory to name a few.
Rich has been producing seriously now for about a year and is something of a personal challenge to him. With some good mentors on his side, he’s working extremely hard to get his material heard and played. Rich was lucky enough for TIM SHERIDAN to contact him on some material sent to him.
This developed into Richard releasing the first ever EP for Tim’s label VeryVeryWrongIndeedrecordings on vinyl in Sept 07 and received a 4 star review in IDJ! Rich has also had his track O.C.D. off the Juicy Vermin EP played on KISS fm by TERRY FRANCIS on JOHN DIGWEED'S transitions show and airplay on several other European stations like Dinamo 103.8 in France. Very recently, ELLEN ALLIEN licensed his track 'Juicy Vermin' to her mix CD Boogey Bytes Vol 4 out on 31st March.
Take a look at the feedback Richard’s debut Juicy Vermin EP received…
“Great record! This label is going to do great things!” Steve Lawler (Harlem nights)
“Loved this release, think outside probably my favourite but hard to say. Lovely rolling bassline, very stripped down track, sounds mint! Moody as! And again, wicked breakdown, intense! All really nice tracks nothing bad to say about any of them.” Emma Thompson (Mistress De Funk / BBC Radio 1)
“Great label, great sound, good stuff from Timmy’s camp!” Andrew Grant (Circo Loco)
“LURRRRRVIN IT! I know you’ll hate this, but this certainly has a more US slant than the other stuff. And a brilliant build up to the more full groove dropping. I’ll utterly hammer it” Mike Monday (Playtime)
“OCD is a cool track… this will work well in Italy where they only like tracks that sound like this” Jeff Samuel (Poker Flat / Trapez)
“Great EP, really really good! I like the 1st track best, it’s so abstract and at the same time groovy! But also the 2 others, they are good, especially Think Outside. Keep me updated with the label. I will write a review for Groove Mag!” Mathias Schaffhauser (WARB)
We also have a special surprise guest that we’ll be announcing on the day at the party. They will be support from Different Language and the Work DJs.
If you’ve been to a Different Language party at the Lamp previously, then spot yourself on our projector screen behind the bar area. The first 100 people through the door will receive a copy of Different Language’s brand new mix. The Lamp will be decorated with our stylish Moroccan themed décor and with it been the first of our summer parties we’ll be having fresh fruit and the Lamp will be putting on some summer drink promotions.
As usual, the parties continue to raise money for the St. Andrew’s Children’s Hospice and we have several collection points at the bar, all donations are gratefully received. We are an official Deja Vu pre-party with them celebrating their 16th Birthday with guests DJ Sneak and Howard Donald.
Things kick off from 2pm and if you get in before 4pm, it’s FREE ENTRY! After 4pm entry is only £2 and considering the line up and what we put on down at the Lamp a bit of loose change is a bargain. We go on until 9pm and then Shinobi take over the Lamp for their Bank Holiday party.
Despite the snow back in March we amazingly had over 350 people turn up before 9pm so we hope to see everyone for one last summer party down at the Lamp!
Venue: The Lamp (Opposite the Hull Daily Mail) Date & Time: Bank Holiday Sunday 4th May, 2-9pm Line up: Richard Seeley, special surprise guest, Different Language, Work DJs Entry: FREE before 4pm, £2 after
