DJ / Producer Biography
Ben Keen, best known to dance fans the world over as BK, is one of the most prolific DJ / producers of the past decade. As in house producer at Nukleuz, he wrote, co-wrote and remixed over 70 releases, single-handedly shaping the sound of hard dance in the mid to late 1990's and naturally filling the void left by the late, great Tony De Vit as the global ambassador of harder edged dance music.
It shouldn't come as a surprise to learn having proven his worth as a producer, BK took to DJing overnight thanks to his unrivalled technical ability with studio equipment and proven track record for having an ear for what dancefloors want to hear. However, the rapid rate that BK rose through the DJing ranks blew everybody away. Within months of making his DJ debut BK was headlining major events around the world, plus key festivals such as Gatecrasher Summer Sound System, Creamfields, Global Gathering & Dance Valley. By 2001 BK was DJing around 200 dates a year, storming into the DJ Magazine Top 100 poll by entering at #52.
BK's 'Revolution' single in 2002 was the most successful hard dance single of this era, entering the national charts in the UK and many other territories while capturing the imagination of DJs from right across the dance scene, getting playlist support from names as diverse as Armin van Buuren and Lisa Lashes. The crossover success of Ben's production sound at this time spurred him on to new challenges. After all, there are only so many times one man can re-write the hard dance history book without wondering "what else can I conquer in the world of dance music?" Well, quite a lot it would appear, if your name happens to be Ben Keen.
The past few years have seen BK make large inroads into other areas of the dance scene, highlighting his many and diverse talents. Soon after releasing his critically acclaimed 'Klub Kollaborations' album in 2003 Ben quit Nukleuz to start his own Riot! brand and label with Ed Real. Riot! Recordings instantly became the hottest harder edged dance label on the planet in place of Nukleuz with BK the driving force behind such anthems such as 'Unfinished Sympathy' and 'Playing With Knives'.
However, it has also given BK the platform from which to showcase his other sounds, whether it be the tough tech trance sounds of 'Soul Image' championed by Paul van Dyk, or the Tiësto and Sander van Doorn playlist favourite 'Amino'. BK has also collaborated in the studio with Judge Jules, D.A.V.E. The Drummer, Christopher Lawrence, Paul Masterson and Nick Sentience in recent times, not to mention a host of other A list names from other genres under various other mysterious guises.
BK is also making his mark on the CD and compilation market, mixing 2 CDs of the best selling Ministry Of Sound 'Euphoria' series, followed by his own Riot! compilation CD in the summer of 2006. Dance fans will also be eagerly anticipating the April 2007 release of the brand new BK artist album 'Under The Influence' that will showcase one CD of new studio productions and one Live CD of a rare BK Live set at the 2006 Global Gathering Festival.
It's the diverse sounds of BK that ensure he's a global force in dance music today. Needless to say that you'll still find BK the focus of every key hard dance event, but his broader sounds have also created a whole new fanbase and opened up many more large scale events around the globe, so it's with high expectations that we look forward to what the future holds for BK the DJ and producer
