This article is about The Big Beef Bondage Ball @ Club Evolution in Leeds (UK), Sun 06 May 2007
Intro: The BigBeef reunion is one of the biggest events in the hard house calendar. Not only for the music and atmosphere but just like the tidy weekender it’s the perfect social event for hard house’s dedicated followers to meet up with old friends and make new ones. As we anticipate this Sundays mega sell out event we catch up with undouatbly one of the fastest rising and most exciting stars in hard dance today to find out what Morgan has up his sleeve for the legend that is BigBeef.
I READ IN AN INTERVIEW THAT WHEN YOU WERE AT UNI YOU USED TO BE IN BANDS AND STUFF WHAT MADE YOU MOVE AWAY FROM THE ROCK/INDIE SCENE TO PRODUCING TECHNO/ELECTRO/HARD HOUSE TRACKS AND BECOMING A DJ?
Its such a long story loads of things happened with the band I was in, we did a showcase for Warner brothers & EMI and were on the verge of signing a deal but unfortunately we went are separate ways due to personal issues which to be honest was devastating at the time but now I see it as a blessing in disguise. I stared mixing in 2000 and started going to gatecrasher and I was hooked from that point on and really got stuck in to my mixing so production seemed like the next natural progression. Its such a good feeling to see the crowd going mental to your tunes that you’ve spent hours on in the studio just for those 6 or 7 minuets alone it makes it all worth while. The next up was to start my own label, Toasted Recordings which has been a bit quite of late because ive been so busy with gigs and workin on promoting my self but ive got loads of wicked new material that shall be available on there in the next month so keep ya eyes peeled guys.
IF YOU COULD HAVE JUST 3 TRACKS ON YOUR IPOD, WHAT WOULD THEY BE AND WHY?
Oooo that’s such a hard question im in to so much music and so many styles er il give it a go
1. Frank Sinatra - My Way (this is my all time fav tune absolutely love it) 2. Magic Numbers – See you See me (I love the numbers been to see them 3 times this year already deffo one of my favourite bands) 3. Morgan & Groove – Kooky Wooky (This track gets a wicked reaction every time its played was xmas number one in the Tidy digital chart which well made my xmas, never in a million years did I think id get a xmas number one ha-ha)
IF YOU COULD PLAY WITH ONE DJ PAST OR PRESENT WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
Jimmy Saville ‘Now then now then’! seriously though I love playing with My good mates Sam Townend & Deano we have such a laugh and are really enjoying what were doing at the moment it seems all the hard work is finally paying off as we’ve been in it together from the start and know how much hard work we’ve all put in to get here so its wicked now we’re playing massive events like GoodGreef/Tidy/Storm/Sundissentail ect On a regular basis. Happy Dayz!
IF YOU WERE STUCK ON A DESERT ISLAND, WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO HAVE WITH YOU?
3 cdj1000’s a pioneers djm800 my cd collection and all my friends who were on a mission to party hard!
YOU SEEM TO BE GETTING BIGGER AND BIGGER EACH WEEK, WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE IN 2007?
The end of 2006 and beginning of 2007 have been amazing everything’s coming together real nice. Playing the Tidy Weekender was deffo a big tick off the wish list and Playing Storm for the 4th time its amazing to be asked back so many times such an amazing promotion and of course being a regular at Goodgreef is unreal the GG boys & girls are going from strength to strength pulling out all the stops for the events always a pleasure to play. Its all going from brilliant got some amazing bookings coming up at Tidy events, Goodgreef, Sundissential and also the amazing Tall trees and my continued residencies at Wired and the Goodgreef NW After parties amounst others so I hope to continue in the same vain. We’ve just reached 1050 members on my DSI group as well, making it officially the 4th largest DJ Group on here which is a real honour. Got a ace team of moderators on there and its always nice and busy. It’s really good to get feed back from the clubbers and giveaway free tunes ive made and mixes I’ve made some ace mates from it as well. I’ve been hammering it in the studio at the min and hope to get my tunes on some major labels through out the year and more to come from my own lable Toasted recordings. Through out 2007 I hope to venture more down south ive played wildchild & frantic a few times and would love to get back down to London through out the year the London vibe is wicked.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE TRACK OF THE YEAR SO FAR?
Im loving the direction that harddance is going in at the moment its bringing the fun back and putting the house back in to hardhouse. Theres some wicked young producers out there churning out some brill tracks, its hard to pin point just one tune as im in to so many styles depending on what vents im booked to play but the producers that are doing it for me at the moment are Scott Fo-Shaw, Tom Parr, Sam Townend, John saxon, mark sherry and Louis fernio to name a few.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO ABOUT YOUR PERFORMANCE AT SUNDISSENTIAL VS GOODGREEF?
Getting up there and interacting with the crowd it’s the perfect position to put on a real show as the clubbers are all around you as the booth is slap bang in the middle of the dance floor. Also playing my newest productions and seeing the reaction they get really cant wait. Its an amazing experience.
WHAT CAN THE CROWD EXPECT FROM YOUR PERFORMANCE?
Loads of surprises new up front tuneage bootlegs and pure energy. I’ve played at every bigbeef event up 2 now and its defiantly one of the highlights of my diary. The venue is amazing and the crowd are so up for it, its unreal so I always go the extra mile a plan out a set full of fun and madness. Just finished a new intro that will deffo turn heads to say the least random madness I tell thee.
Thanks for the interview really enjoyed answering your questions x
