This article is about HI OKTANE @ Kerbcrawler in Leeds (UK), Fri 20 Feb
1. Hi Andy. So then what did you get up to over Xmas and New Year?
I had a nice quiet Christmas with my family, then was flat out between Christmas and New Year! I played in Dundrum in Ireland on 27th then flew home at 7am to play at Hook’d in London. New Year’s Eve I headed over to Pam’s House in Norwich, followed by a Tin Tins Reunion in Birmingham. New Year’s Day I played for B2T at Gatecrasher in Birmingham and then a set at Blue at Subway in Birmingham on 3rd.
2. You have just recently finished a tour of New Zealand. How did that go?
It was great I played in Auckland, Christchurch & Wellington as well as playing the last ever Enchanted in Adelaide, Australia. The gigs were all great, and I played slightly different at each one which was nice. Auckland & Adelaide were full on, Christchurch I played more techno and hard trance and Wellington a mixture of hard house & hard trance. I also had some free time at the end so had four days in Sydney before flying home.
3. Have you got any plans to do any tours this year?
I’m already pencilled in to play Christchurch again in November, so will be sorting out a tour around that I’m sure. I’ll also be looking at a tour for the label as well at some point.
4. The 2nd release on your own label Cubed is out soon. That see’s you teaming up with Dom Sweeten once again for another great double A side with ‘Get Tweeky’ & ‘The Jinx’. What new tracks have you got in store for the label over the next few months?
I’ve got up to release number 4 ready to go. The third release is by Paul Maddox and myself called Anomaly / Move Forward which is a bit more laid back than the previous two releases, whilst the fourth release is by Frank Farrell and myself called Under The Thumb, which will have a Nik Denton remix. I’ve also got a couple of dates booked with Dom for release number five so plenty on the way!
5. I look forward to hearing some of them on the 20th. You worked with a lot of producers last year. There have been Collaborations with Paul Maddox, Ben Stevens, Defective Audio, Technikal, The Guyver and Frank Farrell. Is there any1 else you would like to work with in the future?
I’ve been talking with Glazby for years about doing something together just not got round to it as yet, also Dave Owens, Karim, Ben Townsend and D.A.V.E. the Drummer are on the list to work with at some point
6. What are your top 5 tracks at the minute?
Nik Denton – Kamishake Andy Farley vs. Base Graffiti – Get Tweeky Technikal vs. Andy Farley – Tantrum Defective Audio & Butcher Boy – Dirty Dog Karl Davis & Defective Audio – Electric Bee
7. What is that 1 old track you just can’t seem to take out of your record bag?
Has to be the Paul Janes mix of Legend B – Lost In Love.
8. Good choice, 1 of my all time favourite tracks. You sure got about last year playing at most of the big events up and down the country. What gig really stuck out as your favourite in 2008?
It’s a draw between Hard South in Brighton, Hook’d in London and Hi-Oktane of course!
9. We had you on at Hi Oktane last year for the Vicious Circle vs. Night. Did you enjoy it last time and are you looking forward playing in Feb?
I can’t wait, the club has a wicked underground vibe, a great system to play on and an up for it friendly crowd.
10. Last 1, what dj would you like to see playing at Hi Oktane in 2009?
D.A.V.E. the Drummer would be wicked, still hard as nails but a change from the norm.
Cheers Andy, We look forward to seeing you at Kerbcrawler on 20th Feb for the next Hi Oktane.
