This article is about VCR3 @ Kerbcrawler in Leeds (UK), Fri 20 Mar 2009
In a relatively short space of time you’ve established Tidy DJs as a formidable force within the DJ circuit, are you pleased with the way things are going for you? Yes, we are more than happy, I think a few people saw us as a bit of a joke when we first formed the Tidy DJs but I like to think we have proved them wrong! We are extremely busy at the moment both with gigs and in the studio so we are pleased with how things are at present!
For the benefit of those yet to see you play, describe the Tidy DJs style. Pumped up party music for the harder generation. If we like it, we play it!
You’re credited with production work with the likes of Paul Maddox (Rave Cat) and of course the stunning remix of Strings For Yasmin, have you got any other production projects in the pipe-line? We have just finished our remix of the tidy classic ‘Organ Donors – Turntablism’ for release on the brand new ‘Love Tidy’ album which has turned out really well. We have also collaborated with Technikal on a track called ‘The Power’ which is out now on Technikal’s ‘Klubbed Together’ album. We have just finished a remix for Morgan’s new label Fumo of a track called ‘Take You Back’, and are looking at remixing a project for Riot! Records very soon, we also have studio dates with Rob Tissera, Rodi Style and Andy Farley lined up so keeping busy on the production front!
As a DJ duo you are extremely versatile, from warm-up to banging closing sets. What can we expect from you at VCr3? I think we are playing pretty early on so probably some scouse house or donk anthems, we know Glazby likes his Donk so just gonna try keep him happy! We have actually just finished our bootleg of Glaz’s track ‘Hostile’ we call it ‘Donkstile’ and it will be getting its first airing at VCR3!
How did you guys first meet? We cant actually remember, it must have been an emotional moment!
How did you get into hard-house? It was just a natural thing, there wasn’t a specific moment when I thought ‘Wow, Im gonna get into Hard house’ , it just kind of happened, some would say maybe fate?
Sam – as label manager at Tidy you get to know about new tracks before anyone else… what tracks are coming through that we should look out for? Loads of good tackle about at the moment! Apart from the usual players stand out tracks for me are at present are by Curve Pusher (Dave Owens) who is doing some awesome stuff at the moment, with an EP in line for release on tidy. Paul F is doing some good Hard Trance stuff, the Nu Raverz are getting everyone wobbling with their Funky Hard house vibes! We also have projects on the go with Ilogik, Rob Tissera, BK Olive Grooves and Jon BW so loads of stuff to look out for over the coming months!
Do either of you have a favorite classic track? Sam - Classic Hard House – I have too many to mention, classic track of all time, I would say Oasis – Wonderwall. Deano – Ian Brown – F.E.A.R / Dejure – Sanctuary
Can you give me an idea of what tracks are currently in your playlist ? Tidy DJs Top 10 for march: 1. Curve Pusher – Tarpon Point / Tidy 2. Tom Berry & Paul F – Come Together (Bang Brothers Remix) / Tidy 3. Organ Donors – Turntablism (The Tidy DJs Ass Scratchin’ Remix) / Tidy 4. Bonzo & Lusty – Feel Good (Curve Pusher Remix) / Funky Disko 5. Technikal Feat MDA & Spherical – Turn It up / Masif 6. Amber D – Rush On Me (Paul Maddox Remix) / Tidy 7. Olive Grooves – Raise The Roof / Tidy 8. Ben Stevens & Rodi Style – The Eternal / Tidy 9. Jon BW & Scott Fo Shaw – Borrowed Milk / Tidy 10. Jon BW – Council House (Tidy DJs Tower Block Remix) / Toolbox
What would your ideal night out involve? Mates, Music and Drink, I think Deano’s involves Dwarfs and Chilli powder?
There is a night called Stark Bollock Naked in London where the punters and DJs are encouraged to be, erm, stark bollock naked. If the money was right would you consider playing there? Name your price. Packet of crisps and a bus ticket home and we will do it!
In your own words, define hard-house. Energetic Music that has the power to move people and bring them together from all walks of life under one roof and one vibe, all creating one hell of a party! What’s the most memorable moment of your careers so far? There have been a few, playing Creamfields last year, playing the main room at Eden in Ibiza, Playing the Tidy weekenders for the first time, playing at Sundissential North for the first time, all those moments where kind of on our list of things we wanted to do as DJ’s ( we have lots more to yet though, the list keeps growing, lol) however I think VCR3 could well be up with the best of em as its shaping up to be a night to remember!
If the Tidy DJs were a make of car, what would you be? We would be the A Team van, cos when you got a problem, that no one else can fix, maybe you should call the Tidy DJs…. Do you have any words of wisdom? Treat every day as if its your last and always remember to live the dream, don’t just think about it! Also remember not lick your hands when you have just been for a jimmy riddle, you might get sick!
Many Thanks to Sam and Deano for the interview, you can catch them at VCR3 @ Kerbcrawler, Leeds - 20/03/09
