Interview with German Tech superstars, Tiefschwarz!!

After taking the dance scene by storm for 25 years, Mixmag has more than earned its stripes as the Number One dance mag in the UK. And to celebrate this incredible achievement and continued domination of the industry, their first party tour in over 8 years is currently taking the country by storm. And on Thursday 9th April, they will be joining forces with two of the cities biggest brands, Filth and Ketoloco and throwing a no holds barred shindig in one of Leeds biggest and best venues, My House. Having also enlisted the unquestionably cool talents of Berlin based DJ duo, and the evening's headliners, Tiefschwarz, you can expect a night filled with quality German tech, the finest house around, and no doubt a more than decent sized portion of debauchery…

Ali and Basti Schwarz - brothers and music lovers, created Tiefschwarz out of a passion garnered since 1990 from their first experiences as DJs at the now legendary clubs that Ali ran in Stuttgart "ON -U" and "Red Dog". These experiences and their obsession with the music they were hearing from within and across the German border, encouraged them to make the step from DJ to producer.

Since then they have taken the world by storm one country at a time, to become one of the biggest tech acts around. Their insane ability to throw a crowd around in one big musical mess sees them regularly smash the worlds finest venues to pieces, and their top class production skills ensure constant accolades from fellow DJs, producers and, of course, clubbers. Their label, Souvenir, continues to go from strength to strength, and as Germany's techno reputation continues to power through through the ranks at breakneck speed, Tiefschwarz remain very much at the fore front of the countries astounding house music pedigree...

You’ve been DJing now since 1995, what did you both do previous to that and why did you start playing?

We were running 2 clubs called On-U (1990-1993) and Red Dog (1993-997) in Stuttgart.
That’s were we started to DJ as our own residents. Why did we start it? Because we loved the nightlife and dance music - so the next step wasn’t too far… DJing

At what point did you move into the studio and what were your early productions like?

We started with our first own little studio back in the mid 90’s in Stuttgart, we were working on deep house music at that time.
