go girl!! you express yourself!!

i personally think that a statement like
just fed up of shit djs

is quite sweeping...

just as a matter of interest.. do you have any suggestions on.. either dj's you'd like to hear, or what it is that you'd like to be gettin from the sounds..?

reckon that might give folks something constructive to work with.

I a;ready said it to you before but it is a shame that RR has lost its sparkle for you hun. we both have a lot of fond memories of the night but i completely understand where your coming from, and its a view i know is mirrored by quite a few of the 'riff raff faithful' to varying extents. having a break from will help you appriciate the peeps an atmos more when or if you do come back.

and you right, we have heard some shit mixing at RR lol....and i and a few others also agree with ayour dislike and disdain to selkirks sets!

I had a good night... It was a momentous occasion for me.. I started riff raff 9 years ago and am very proud of it.. alot of hard work love and energy by many many people go in to creating riff raff, month on month.. sometimes this is under appreciated or taken for granted.. and also alot of people give alot of appreciation..

Everyone is entitled to opinions, often its useful - keeps you on your toes..

If you dont like riff raff or the music anymore then there is nothing that can be done about that, its one of the those things.. some people have been coming for 9 years others a couple.. people change and do different things.. some come back..

Its a real shame its lost its sparkle for you and that you think (and others apparently) that I'm shit.. good job im emotionally stable and the voices in my head still smiling!

Its also a real shame that people are having property taken.. as someone pointed out it does happen and not everyone is a nice person.. the wic is a bubble of lovliness but you shouldnt leave bags, phones, coats etc etc in an insecure place.. put it in the cloakroom, thats what its there for..

Nothing is ever goign to able to please everyone all of the time.. if anyone wants a copy of my shit set then give us a pm!

see you in March - thanks for all the lovely comments and for making my night last sat..

take care.. be safe

good on you chris for takin the feedback so well. i'm not sure i would be. i can't imagine how anyone benefits from being dismissed in a generalised way and to be lumped in as a number of 'shit dj's'.

one of the comments that regularly gets made about ppl that go to riff raff is how 'nice' they are. i think it would be useful if ppl learned to practice 'niceness' in their feedback about one another and about club nights. it's just so easy to slag ppl off, but it's pretty crap being on the receiving end of such stuff.

this thread is making me think of a recent cabbage thread in which ppl were being critical and one of the cabbage guys - not sure who he is - was asking ppl for constructive suggestions.

some really positive ideals have been promoted by the rave scene since the beginning... plur values. if only we could learn to give feedback in kind and constructive ways so that we could all ultimately benefit.

for me riff raff is a treat that i experience whenever i can. it isn't on my doorstep & sometimes i don't get there for months on end. i spend the night in both in both rooms and stay according to what lights my bulb from one moment to the next. i've seen it evolve in the 4 years i've been going and i'm grateful for the opportunity it gives me to have a very special clubbing experience i've never had anywhere else xxxx

PS this is NOT an attack on anyone! i'm totally not into dsi abuse. what i'm doing here is expressing how i feel generally about the ways that feedback can be given.

i appreciate that expressing our true opinions is often difficult because of the risks we take by doing it.

i'm all for self expression tho and i'm all for learning.

maybe there could be a suggestions/feedback box sometime at riff raff. there are definitely comments that i would like to make within the safety of anonymity but also, hopefully, with kindness, sensitivity and respect x

Whatever that godawful Metallica remix was, that was embarassing to hear.

It wasnt the Greg Zogg & Ben Fraser "Exit Light" ? If it was - its rocked many a dance floor over the past four years - it if was a dodgy skazi or parasense remix - then you're probably correct!

Anyway - happy birthday to the Riff Raff crew - you cannot please all the people all the time - but if you're still partying every month with a busy dancefloor in both rooms after nine years - you're obviously doing something right...

:)

I've noticed Riff Raff has been getting a mite bit trancier of late - personally, I love it - but could some of the more pretentious technoheads be imploding with the suspense? ;P

i would increase the size of this pic if i had the slightest clue how to.. (anna.. help!! :)

it's one of my many many favourites from the nite..

i always feel, when i'm lookin at my dsi favourite pics, how they sum up for me how special riff raff is.. they're full of colourful ppl - some of whom i know, some of whom i don't - obviously havin an amazing time, expressing themselves + gettin off on the whole experience of the nite.

this makes me feel really lucky :)

congratulations on 9 years to chris, emma, mike & caroline x x x x

+ a big thank you to all the others invloved in the get-ins/get-outs..

+ a massive thank you to the wic and some particulary switched-on staff, especially a certain doorman, whose name escapes me at the minute.. it's always great to see him and be welcomed by him, having experienced some of the nightmare door staff out there in the world of clubland X

i can't imagine how anyone benefits from being dismissed in a generalised way and to be lumped in as a number of 'shit dj's'.

tbf we're both not the sort to just generalise someone as a 'shit dj', we and many others have our own opinions as to what we do and dont like when it comes to what a dj plays and they're ability to mix, something which certain dj's (not just selkirk) lack at times. we realise the amount of time and effort it takes to aorganise and play out at events such as these so we wouldnt trivialise this with an off shoot comment like 'crap dj' without valid reasons.

not having a go chippy, jus clarifying what me and charlotte said.

cool neo.. you, of all folks, know how i believe we could all be striving more towards those previously mentioned values... otherwise we're just spouting empty sentiments.

call me an idealist, with my head in the clouds, but i truly believe that this scene - and all that comes with it - came along at a time when humanity was in particular in need of such a thing..

i do think it might be more challenging for younger members of the scene to fully appreciate all that the scene is giving them, because for them, it's always been there.

for others who are older - or others, like yourself, who understand the historical perspective, then it inevitably has another level of value.

maybe chris was touching on this when he made his comment about taking stuff for granted.. i dunno..

but as i said previously, i'm all for self-expression and learning (if delivered in a kind manner) and if we can all benefit from this recent exchange then nice one :) x

fwiw your sets have always been one of the highlights of the night for me. I guess tastes vary though. I could use some of this "emotional stability" of which you speak but at least my head voices are smiling too most of the time.

i do think it might be more challenging for younger members of the scene to fully appreciate all that the scene is giving them, because for them, it's always been there.

because i'm younger i can't understand it on another level? raving was one of the things that changed my entire life, full circle, and i have never had any regrets about that, or been under any illusions what having an outlet such as riff raff has given me. I've been coming for nearly 3 years now. i've said, many, MANY times, to anyone who will listen, that i feel like RR is my spiritual home - a place where i can feel safe, express myself, and have a good time without feeling judged. i know there are a lot of people who aren't so lucky to have found a similar environment.

i love riff raff. i always have. i'm not saying i hate the place and i'll never come back. what i was trying to say is what Jay more eloquently put. perhaps i should have waited until i felt a bit less angsty about the whole thing before i commented.

tbf we're both not the sort to just generalise someone as a 'shit dj', we and many others have our own opinions as to what we do and dont like when it comes to what a dj plays and they're ability to mix, something which certain dj's (not just selkirk) lack at times. we realise the amount of time and effort it takes to aorganise and play out at events such as these so we wouldnt trivialise this with an off shoot comment like 'crap dj' without valid reasons.

my comment about 'shit djs' was quite flippant, and i appreciate that not much can be construed from it other than an insult, and i apologise for it coming out that way. everyone who knows me knows i am the last to criticise someone else on a personal level. i don't ever wish to cause any offence by my opinion of the djing - or anything else - that occurs at RR. it is a very energetic, successful night, and even more so, a community - one that i have felt priviliged and happy to be a part of all this time.

Its a real shame its lost its sparkle for you and that you think (and others apparently) that I'm shit.. good job im emotionally stable and the voices in my head still smiling!

Selkirk, no offence intended, i probably should have been a bit more diplomatic when providing my opinion. If its constructive criticism that people want, well, all I can say is that I don't feel your sets flow as well as some other people's, and I feel that the same songs get played too frequently (especially Funky Town, which at this point does actually make me want to gnaw on my arm :P) And you said it yourself,
Nothing is ever goign to able to please everyone all of the time..
I can't really speak for other people, but I think perhaps because you are here on the forums and because you are such an integral part of riff raff, that people may be a little bit loathed to say anything negative. As I said, I never intended to cause offence. I am just one of the (how many?) hundreds of people who turn out every month for riffraff and enjoy it wholeheartedly.

I started riff raff 9 years ago and am very proud of it.. alot of hard work love and energy by many many people go in to creating riff raff, month on month.. sometimes this is under appreciated or taken for granted.. and also alot of people give alot of appreciation..

i completely respect and appreciate all the work that goes into making riff raff the success that it is for so many people. i do not know what i would have done without having found this place. i would be in a different place, definitely worse off. as Jay said, I have some extremely fond memories of the place, i've made some beautiful, interesting friends and acquaintances, and had some amazingly fun times. nothing will change that!!

again, i apologise for my flippant remark about 'shit djs' i should have phrased it a bit better!

please stop booking the lab 4 guys, i am fed up of them :P
