RAV TAKHAR INTERVIEW
------------------------------

Elusive welcomes Rav Takhar back to the decks after his first appearance last November. We chat to the man himself to find how things are progressing...

Q.
Rav, good to catch up with you again! You’ve been a busy man since we saw you last November. Where can we find you today?

A.
Good to speak to you guys again. Im all good, just been chilling out watching the football all afternoon...happy days!

Q.
We have seen you playing all over the country this year. Which has been your favourite gig so far and why?

A.
I have had the pleasure of playing some top gigs this year. I think the DS 2nd birthday was pretty special, but being invited by Gareth Emery to play the 2nd Garuda event at Sankeys in Manchester a few weeks back was amazing. I played after Above and Beyond and it went off big time to say the least!!

Q.
Let’s talk about Digital Society. What can you tell us about the forthcoming album?

A.
The album is mixed and compiled by John Askew with 40 tracks over 2 CDs. I haven't had the pleasure of listening to it yet, but it looks absolutely awesome. There are so many upfront up tracks and remixes on there, and it looks like John has done an amazing job. We have an album launch party on Friday October 9th in Leeds and a host of tours planned for John...keep your eyes peeled! ;-)

Q.
The brand has expanded massively – your team has even been collaborating with brands such as Gatecrasher and Judgement Sundays. What’s next?

A.
Yeah we have been progressing over the past year and are pushing ourselves to keep going and put on parties that exceed people's expectations!! We are currently planning on our 3rd Birthday in 2010...watch this space is all i have to say for now!

Q.
At the moment you are studying a course in music production in Sheffield. How is it all going, and when can we expect the sounds of Rav Takhar to start gracing our CD wallets?

A.
Haha! Yeah its been alot of fun learning the production side of things and very challenging. But i feel as though it's come on nicely, and I have learned a hell of a lot. The guys at Sheffield College of Music really know their stuff. I guess only time will tell when the sounds of Rav Takhar will be unleashed upon the world haha!!

Q.
Since you last appeared at Elusive, the night has moved to an intimate new venue and the birthday line-up is its biggest yet. How do you feel about returning?

A.
I cannot fucking wait to come back! The last time was awesome, had a wicked laugh with everyone there. Its good to see Elusive going strong. Long may it continue! Im looking forward to playing this time around and have heard some good things about the venue. Looking forward to smashing the place apart ;-)

Q.
You have a driving, uplifting style that has become renowned in clubland. How has your sound progressed over the last year?

A.
In a club it all depends on what time i play. If I'm on an earlier set I like to build it up by playing more of the chunkier, proggy trance. If its a later set then its all about keeping the energy in the crowd and the dancefloor rocking. Playing peak time anthems helps. I have a new radio show on Afterhours.FM, and I like to build it nicely with proggy uplifting trance to the more melodic uplifting stuff, right through to the banging stuff! Always nice to finish off with a bang hehe. You can catch my show every 3rd Thursday from 1500-1600.

Q.
Who are your favourite DJ’s at the moment?

A.
At the moment they are Gareth Emery, John O'Callaghan, Menno De Jong, and Activa.

Q.
Which new talents are ones to watch out for in your opinion?

A.
Hmmm there's always a host of new talent to come through, but the ones that really stand out in my eyes are Activa and Ben Gold. Activa has been around a long time but the guys productions are unreal! As for Ben, he is another who has been around for ages but is finally getting the recognition he deserves. He has produced some belters this year!

Q.
Think about your long history of week in week out clubbing before you became a DJ. All the nights out and all the messy after parties! What’s the funniest or most bizarre memory you have of these times?

A.
Hahaha i honestly do not know what you mean...I have been nothing but a good boy in my life . But i guess the funniest and most random situation i have been in with regards to clubbing treks was when I was on my way to Passion a few years back.

Me and few friends travelled and got a hotel at the Travelodge nearby. We got into a mini bus/taxi that we ordered to pick us up and take us to the club. On our way there we got talking to the driver who basically asked us out right whether we wanted to play a few games!??

We reluctantly said yeah, and he proceeded to take us down some dark, deserted, dodgy country lanes. I have to admit at this point I thought it was game over for us all! He then told us to get out of the van, so we got out...

He put on this rock / guitar type of music that was his band he formed many moons ago, and told us to dance around the mini bus! So we did, absolutely creasing ourselves at the same time! We got back in the van and on we went to Passion. At this point we were still all in stitches and thought how fucking random is this guy!!

On our way to Passion he puts on one of his band's CD's, and we all had to join in singing along to it (it wasn't exactly words we sung, more like random sounds!!). Somehow it turned into a mini competition, and one of my mates won a copy of the CD. For all of us partaking in the game he gave us all a Luck Peg with writing on it (I still have mine haha).

We finally get to Passion and right outside the entrance of the Emporium, and when we arrive he tells us to stay in the mini bus. He gets out, opens the side door, and there is a red carpet for us to walk into the club on! I remember us getting into the club and thinking that was the funniest thing to happen before a night out, and during the night we were still talking about 'Foxy The Taxi Driver'.

Over the course of the evening we were telling some friends, and a group of people overheard our conversation and had the same experience with Foxy The Taxi Driver!! We were also told he had been in Mixmag for his crazy antics over the years!

Cheers Rav that's one hell of a story, perhaps not one for the grandkids though lol. See you in a few weeks!

i was at garuda and rav was awesome... 5-6 set is difficult but the dancefloor was full.

lol the lights were switched on at 5.55 but nobody left the dancefloor, and then a guy got behind the decks to tell rav to stop... and he nodded his headed and was like ' yeah yeah ok il just finish this song' and he started mixing into another tune. was fucking hilarious. awesome night at sankeys!!!
