Stel's back......

After smashing the room up for us last year and coming 3rd in the recent 69 magazine 'Rising Stars' poll we've asked back the man from Circus in Liverpool, the mighty Stel Alexander!

"From an early age Stel showed an interest in performance. Since buying his decks 7 years ago stel has touched upon many genres of music before settling on house and techno.

Stels recent influences have been - Justin Long, Andrew Weatherall, Ivan Smagghe and Jesse Rose. Stel was also influenced strongly by Yousef’s attitude and passion towards music.

To get an idea of Stels style you would have to mix together Justin Longs’ energy, Weatherall and Smagghes’ sounds and the diversity of Jesse RoseOr you can go to www.myspace.com/circusstelalexander and go to his blog where you can download recent recorded sets.

Stel promoted Wrexham’s Freak at Centeral station with good friend Mark Barnes. Stel helped Mark take Freak from a small 40 capacity basement on a Thursday night to a 800 capacity venue becoming Wrexham’s most successful underground club night. After one and a half years at Freak Stel finally threw in the towel at promoting after realising his DJing was taking a back seat.

Being the extremely helpful person that Stel is it wasn’t very long before he was offering a helping hand to another club night. Stel became the designated driver for ‘house rules No.1 night’ CIRCUS by being in the right place at the right time, and after winning the trust of the CIRCUS team Stel still holds that position today.

As well as DJing Stel is beginning to produce music. After leaving Freak Stel met up with Paul and Dave Denhyer, Father and son, who would become very good friends with Stel. Paul and Dave had heard a mix c.d. Stel had made and wanted to make music with him, and so ‘Down in the Basement’ were formed. Releases out on MHYH record label.

Stel started turning some heads with his DJing potential after winning the August 2005 IDJ Magazine competition, and more importantly Rich McGinnis and Yousef took a look at who they had driving for them and recognised Stel had the ability to become a CIRCUS resident.

Yousef and Sonny Wharton will tell you, Stel Alexander is ‘head and shoulders’ above the rest and is one of the most exciting new DJs to emerge onto the house scene. His blend of acid, techno and jacking house is always exciting and his sets are full of energy and life.

His enthusiasm and energy are evident in his own beats n bleeps, which are now becoming more of a feature of his live sets, and he brings an edge to the basement sound."
