2010 sees the return of JAMFEST, a three day mini festival in Leicester, boasting a wide array of creative styles and art-forms.
The concept behind the festival is part of an exciting initiative from UKURBANCULTURE, in collaboration with Digital Bass Sound-system, to connect lesser known, talented individuals and provide them with a safe and enjoyable environment where they can pursue their interest, contribute to the UK urban movement and ultimately gain recognition for those contributions.
JAMFEST embodies the vision of UKURBANCULTURE; it is the unification of art forms, styles and, ultimately, people that drive the UK urban movement and guarantee its progression and prosperity.
At JAMFEST the audience can experience and enjoy the UK’s urban arts scene in a local environment. Members of the public would not normally see the intricate, multi-layered steps of graffiti art in the making or the physical demands of break-dancing. JAMFEST brings them this opportunity, leaving people with a deeper understanding of these often-ostracised art forms.
Day 1: Live Bands- 14th Oct 8:30 – 2:00 AM
The amalgamation of a variety of musical acts with sounds ranging from Latin inspired hip hop to synthetic Brit hop and a bit of everything in between. Headliners include; Latin-influenced Elmahico whose music is a seamless fusion of rap, scratching and song-smithery with political messages imbedded in accessible lyrics and beats, and 2010 Winner of The People’s Music Awards (HipHop Category) Queens English, a self-titled “banana bunch of trouble”, their unparalled entertainment skills are only matched by their irrefutable talent in vocals, rap and beatboxing.
Day 2: Hip Hop + Dubstep – 15th Oct 8:30 – 2:00 AM
Back by popular demand, JAMFEST sports yet another B-Boy showcase to blow your mind from Nottingham-based crew Groundhogs. The Groundhogs are an urban dance company whose cool contortionism manifests itself in lockiing, popping and breakdancing. Currently on tour with their show “Abra Kadabra”, this dynamic team hold several accolades in the street arena including a sponsorship from hot streetwear label Supreme Being. They perform, choreograph and undertake educational workshops in urban dance styles.
Also on the night will be a scratch battle comprising of multiple, talented turntablists, including DJ Pos, previously in-band DJ for the Happy Mondays, and a series of skilled hip-hop DJs and Mcs. Then we turn up the intensity adding the atmospheric vibes of a Dubstep B-line. With DnB veteran, and Dupstep forerunner, John Maveric headlining the night, it promises to be an ambient, dark atmosphere.
Day 3: DnB – 16th Oct 8:30 – 3:00 AM
As the event reaches its climax, JAMFEST will come to an end with a bang, or should we say an almighty, floor-shaking rumble. The line-up includes DJ Cutz who once held the coveted residency at Get Loaded (Turnmills, London) for a year, and the multi talented marvel that is Aeroplane Dope, a man with more hustle than an ant pumped up on steroids.
Aeroplane Dope has recently released his debut album, Scraping The Grinder, on Eightfx Records. Believe the hype, this is one act not to be missed, catch him on all three days and see for your self.
Also set to take the stage is The Jellyhead Collective, masters of Leicestershire’s outdoor rave scene. From start to finish, day three promises to be a high octane experience, and still leave audiences thirsty for more.
Every Day
For the three days that the event is being hosted, there will be an exhibition selling urban art. This will run from 12:00pm – 6:00pm daily. Additional street elements will be added with live graffiti artists every night from the likes of Dones, recently at Freefest (Loughborough) and Upfest (Bristol) and having been commissioned for a plethora of projects, and Emptea KB who’s 25 year’s of experience can be seen across western Europe, including commissions for a glut of UK Councils and exhibits at supersize trade show Foire de Paris. Every night of the festival will feature two different artists.
Also featuring at the festival will be a food stall selling soul-food, supplied by UK Urban Culture’s in-house chefs.

A support, PR and marketing platform, UKURBANCULTURE offers a stage that seeks to unite all who share a passion for the urban lifestyle. We hope to enhance a community that both represents and promotes a healthy urban culture.
Launched in 2008 with three partners, UKURBANCULTURE was born out of a lack of urban-arts related social events in Leicester. Even though the city has a plethora of creative’s ready to be noticed, the team has often endured the frustration of having to travel, with other such like minded Leicester residents, to various other cities to absorb this much-loved culture.
We are now a four piece partnership that has so far funded all of UKURBANCULTURE’s operations. Due to unforeseen circumstances, JAMFEST 2009 had to be foregone. Since then, the company has spent time researching options, networking with artists and members of the press, organising and carrying out the smaller Guerilla events and solidifying a company ethos. With this behind us, we have come back stronger, more focussed and ready to host JAMFEST 2010.
