Shivoo’s November excursion is a bit of a beast, welcoming a certain radio starlet to the Midlands as part of her UK tour taking in some of the best clubs on offer. And she’s bringing some special guests too…

A-Trak is the Kanye West tour DJ and one of hip-hop’s most widely feted figures. Boasting amazing skills, A-Trak rose to prominence in the late nineties on the back of his supreme talent which belied his young years; he was the youngest ever winner of the DMC title at 15 years old. But more than focusing on the boom bap, A-Trak’s wide eyed passion for music saw him ransacking genres normally not associated with the pomp and swagger of rap, becoming fascinated by the skittering beats of house and the other more erratic segments of the rave canon.

Soon chopping up Justice just as readily as Jay-Z, his peers quickly followed fusing of modern day dance music in the same manner that served the block party aesthetic in hip-hop thirty years previously. Craze, Rafik, C2C all artists and crews whose palettes have been increased since A-Trak, but it’s more telling to see whose been paying attention to what goes on before he hits stage; Kanye’s interpolations of dance music and daft punk is no coincidence.

The scratch master is joined by the honey voiced first lady of rave, Annie Mac, who has been peerless in championing the underground strains of dance music on a mainstream level. Drum n bass, Electro, breaks and the ghetto styles from America have all received national exposure via Annie’s hugely successful army of shows on Radio One, whilst her Djing continues to bring this to clubs around the world.

She’s also continued that exposure with programming her own club nights, taking the role of DJ one step further. Possessed of the same musical DNA that forms as Shivoo’s fulcrum, she brings the sassy funk like no-one else and completely encapsulates the eclecticism at the heart of the night’s success.

The mysterious Fake Blood, whose identity remains shrouded in mystery despite a gamut of comparisons drawn to many of the leading figures in his field, closes off the guests for the main room. Combining earth shattering synth riffs alongside crunchy beats, it’s easy to see why the likes of Erol Alkan and Touche have peppered their sets with his cuts, and whilst the bloggers have tried to link his identity to those pair and many more. Parker & Pasquale round off the vibe.

Room Two sees the laidback funk vibes of Half Cut Club and Steve Gibson adding a mellow edge to the insanity of the main room.
