1.This is the first time you have played for Goodgreef and for Fire it up, how does it feel to be involved in two of the UKs biggest club nights?
I heard great stories about Goodgreef from many DJs on the scene like Alex Kidd, Gaz West and Organ Donors, so I am very pleased to play there and to be able to check out the madness. Plus with Eddie on board at Fire It Up, it will definitely be a wild night, I’m looking forward to it very much indeed to playing there. Fire It Up, as they say!
2.You’ve played for a huge variety of events, such as Dance Valley and the Miami Winter Conference; do you prefer to play at the big festivals or the more intimate nights?
To be honest, I can’t choose between big festivals and intimate clubnights. Both have their own special feeling to it and at both festivals and clubnights I can do what I love doing most: play the best tunes I have and turn the club or festival upside down. There are some differences though. I think you can really feel and use the atmosphere when you play in a small club. It’s harder to do so at festivals and major events, because you can only feel the vibe that’s going on in the front part of the crowd. But the more experience one gets, the more one can rely on that and play a good set. So therefore my seventeen years of experience come in extremely handy when it comes to ‘read’ crowds.
3.Yoji Biomehanika has always given you support, and helped give you your break, is he one of your inspirations?
Indeed I think it’s great that Yoji has always been a great friend & supported me. Though it’s not completely true that he helped me to get to the top that’s was down to the support I got from the crowd at HQ and the large UDC events, then Yoji and my self crossed paths, but this I had just been signed to UDC when we first met and Yoji was at his peak here in Holland, I was often on before or after Yoji. Then some one had the idea of putting us on back to back, after the one time in 2003 at Impulz Outdoor when Yoji closed the HQ area down playing his set with my records, because his record bag was left behind at the airport in Dusseldorf, Germany. Later that year, at HQ XL in 2003, where we closed the party down with a smashing set, we had a great time together banging it out. Yoji is part of the group of DJs who have helped harddance develop in all its ways and who have created the true HQ feeling in Holland and among the DJs and crowds all over the world. That feeling has been my inspiration over the last few years and I know it always will be.
4.How has your style developed or changed at all over the many years which you have been in the industry for, and why?
I’ve always been very open-minded when it comes to new music, I want to hear everything and if I like it, it often ends up in my sets. Nowadays I play more styles next to harddance than ever before, as music is always progressing and changing, otherwise it would get very boring I think.
5.You’re playing in the Goodgreef room, what can we expect from your set?
You can expect some of my own new tunes, that’s for sure. Tommy Pulse and myself have just finished a new track called ‘Outlaw’, which will be the next release after our most successful track to date ‘Pirates’ which was released on my own label XSIF Records. But the keywords will be hard and euphoric; I love to send some shivers down everyone’s spines, get a reaction going. Hands in the air, make some noise and ‘AV IT’!
6.If you could have any one wish granted, what would it be and why?
If I could wish something for the world: no more hunger, no more poorness and no more war. I don’t want this to sound like a cliché, but I just cannot stand it that people are being slaughtered just because of their race or the fact that they believe in a different god. Everyone deserves to live a normal life, if that could come true the world would look so much better.
When it comes to music and my career, I would wish that my own new clubnight would become successful throughout the next few years, and to play more events like Goodgreef in the UK.
Love, peace and respect,
