With the Love Box festival having such a good line up last Saturday and finishing at 10pm, it was to no surprise there was plenty of meaty after parties scheduled.
There’s nothing like 40,000 warmed up clubbers streaming out of Victoria park to get club promoters racking their brains and putting the leg work in! No less than 4 official Love Box carry on’s and a billion squillion other ones.

Overlooking the official money burning after hour bashes, there was one party I personally have been looking forward to for a long time.. The timely return of London’s original jacking house night Mooch!n. And it just so happened to be at the closest club for the Love Box revellers to fall into, 54 Mile End.
One of London’s newest clubs with a fair amount of hype surrounding it, Commercial streets sister club 54 Mile End has a funky cool lay out upstairs - with black leather couches and bar stools to catch up with good mates while the club starts to pack out and a fairly small dance floor space which makes the club seem busier earlier – also a plus! Purple radio played their way through a funk soul house blend easing punters through. With the industrial downstairs room hosted by the Mooch!n collective. The mega low ceilings in this room reverberates bass lines to maximum effect and the sense of underground nitty gritty fills the air of true debauchery.

After stickering the Love Box swarms like crazy I got down at around 10:30pm, unfortunately missing Jon Fyns warm up downstairs. So instead I opted for a little funk soul brother catching up with Mooch!n fans, old and new in the top bar.. This was not to last long however, as I was soon itching to get into what I had really come to do; get my ass shaking to some jacked up beats and bass!

GIOM made a good start to proceedings, enticing more and more club nuts downstairs. Followed by Trueman Industries who although launched straight into some quality tuneage did not read the crowd well and his set lost its way, drifting into some very weak RnB sounding house. Thank goodness then not only was it the turn of Mr Mooch!n Lee Jarvis to take to the decks but joining him was his old mate and Mooch!n leg-end Mr Kimble for some very special back to back action. Quote of the night came from Mr Kimble just before his set.. ‘I’m just gonna play some fucking tuuuunes! Arrrgggh!’ … and guess what? He didn’t arf! Jarvis and Kimble ripped the place into a rave scene, presenting a master class in jacked up house music – you can tell these boys have been mixing together for years with seamlessly tight mixes and a top drawer tune selection, from one banger to another this was really, really impressive! Here’s hoping Mr Kimble can be persuaded out of retirement for another Mooch or two yet!
For a night finishing at 3am this certainly got a good vibe going and much expected quality provided by Jarvis and Kimble. Very much looking forward to the next one!

Watch the door. recommended list for more Mooch!n dates soon ;)

The night was far from over by then (infact it got quite a bit messier!) – look out for my upcoming review on London’s newest Sunday morning techno / electro party @ London Stone which showed a lot of promise!
