This article is about 54 Music Light Party No. 2 @ 54 in London (UK), Sat 06 Jun

Our second set of releases are upon us. Following on from last months musical excellence we are unleashing another 2 EP's firmly aimed at dance floor destruction. Enjoy!

LIGHT - Daniel Kyo Esferas EP

With appearances on the marvellous German imprint Plastic City, Daniel Kyo has gone on to find favour with the likes of Laurent Garnier, Kevin Yost, The Timewriter and Scope with his deep deep house flavours. DJing alongside the likes of Jimpster, Milton Jackson and Italoboyz, he is fast making a name for himself amongst the deep elite.

Thuddy kicks and throbbing bass set the tone for Esferas – you know you’re in for a deep ride from the start. Gentle conga rhythms lap at your ears while muted tones hum and whistle. Monotone synths slowly rise out of the track, gathering intensity with some big builds – but never becoming too overwhelming. It’s a real teaser of a track with an undertone of deep Detroit techno.

Unfit is more housey and soulful by comparison, with a slow-burning groove filled out with warm bass, delicate little synth patterns and a classically-styled vocal snippet. The builds lay on emotive atmospherics and once again tease and tantalise, leading us towards some subtle, smokey, hazy pad sounds that briefly give the track a melancholic twinge.

DARK - Alex Caytas & Aleks Patz - The Sun Turned Blue EP

This Swedish duo make up two-thirds of production outfit Sour Grapes, whose tracks have received support from luminaries such as Eric Prydz, Dave Spoon, Chris Lake, Laidback Luke, Joachim Garraud and Tocadisco. Here we see them in a techier mood altogether.

Alex & Aleks turn in a fine slice of hard-grooving tuneful minimal tech here, all stuttering percussion and wiggling bass at first. Beautiful, fragile melodies that evoke the likes of Gui Boratto slowly work their way into the track, accompanied by lush strings, giving it a mystical, spine-tingling edge that works beautifully with the dainty groove.

On the remix front, we’re treated to a stripped-back, deeply dubby excursion from Tony Gomez, a punishing, dark mini-tech throbber from Gun For Hire, and a grunting, heads-down slice of dark room tech house from the legendary Kevin Over – making this a package with plenty to choose from.
