Catch up with Inland Knights ahead of 54 Music's launch party

This article is about 54 Music Launch Party - Audiojack, Inland Knights, Kanio... @ 54 in London (UK), Fri 06 Mar 2009

On 6th March 2009 54 London will officially be open for business. After 6 months of searching every corner of the globe and scouring through hundreds of entry demo’s, the winners of 54 London’s search for the biggest producer of tomorrow are ready to be revealed. And to showcase the incredible talent uncovered in this once in a lifetime competition opportunity and prepare them for their production debut at the Winter Music Conference, expect a party to end all parties...

And adding to the line up of Audiojack, Shur-I-Kan and Kanio are the massive INLAND KNIGHTS!!

These DJs, producers and promoters, have been running incredible parties and releasing tracks since the early 90’s, and with support from an endless array of fellow DJs, they love to party as much as produce and keep their heads firmly above ground with continual tours and incredible events thrown out at a tireless pace. With their own hugely respected label, Drop Music, celebrating 10 years of business and no signs of letting up where production is concerned, there's little doubt why Inland Knights are hailed by so many as true legends in their field.

Have you already played many gigs so far this year?

Yeah we have played a few… Highlights so far have been hiz’n’herz in London, smokescreen in Notts and smaller gigs in Oxford and Matlock(!)
Next weekend we are at Silo in Leuven, Belgium.

You’ve been involved in promoting events for years, what are your top tips for aspiring promoters?

I think promotion is the key…. especially with the arrival of the net, now you can make sure you do everything in your power to get your event to as many people as possible…but standing outside of clubs with flyers is still the best way to make people aware.

Which other artists would you compare your sound to? And who else really inspires you?

I don’t think we really sound like anyone else… I think to do well you should carve out your own style and sound…obviously you get influenced by what you hear in the clubs and by what other people are doing…but what should be coming thru is your own slant on what you hear out.
Many people inspire us…. too many to mention here!

What still drives you to DJ after so many years behind the decks?

Just a love for the music we play, and a desire to be good at what we do.

What’s on the cards for your record label, Drop Music, this year?

Well due to unforeseen events we will be relaunching the ten years of drop album, which showcases some of our old tracks, as well as new tracks by Johnny Fiasco, Crazy P, Miguel Migs, Littlemen and Sound Republic amongst others. Aside from that it will be business as usual releasing singles.

Which venues do you enjoy playing the UK and why?

We enjoy playing all sorts of venues for different reasons… we can be playing at a really small unknown club and it can be wicked… it really depends on the crowd, however we always look forward to playing places like Fabric.

How would you first approach remixing a song, what’s the first step?

Listen to the original …. get a feel for what is going on with it, then write some beats!

The launch party for new label, 54 Music, sees a huge range of artists play together, not only the winners of the comp but also Audiojack, Shur-I-Kan, Kanio and yourself, are you looking forward to the night? What do you have lined up for it?

Really looking forward to the night! Expect quality house with chunky beats and funky basslines from us!

Where else will we see you playing this year?

We will be gigging up and down the UK as well as tours in the US and Australia if you fancy catching us there!
