ROCKing the DANCEfloor

As SLAANG approaches on March 3rd, bringing London its first taste of "nu-rave" warehouse partying, we traced the sordid relationship between rock and dance music right back to the early '80s...

The Futureheads get SLAANGed up!

Sunderland-based post-punkers The Futureheads are well known for their angular, spiky indie sounds and most notably for their anthemic rework of Kate Bush's 'Hounds of Love', but did you know they also enjoy a bit of a spin on the decks? Ahead of their set at SLAANG in London on March 3rd, Barry from the bang filled us in on his DJing habits...

FOUR OF THE BIGGEST ONE-OFF WAREHOUSE PARTIES ARE ABOUT TO HIT LONDON

2006 was the year that dance and rock got back together after a messy break-up. In 2007, they won't be able to keep their hands off each other – and it's with this rekindled, sordid romance in mind that SLAANG rears its wicked head for the very first time on March 3rd in East London.

SLAANG will be hijacking some of London 's most desirable derelict spaces for four exclusive one-off warehouse parties throughout 2007. Ever wondered where the “rave” in nu-rave had been hiding? Here's your answer. SLAANG takes the simple formula of supremely phat soundsystem + the most acclaimed bands and DJs in the indie/electro crossover world + hedonistic dontgiveaf**k crowd, chews it up and spits it all out in an authentic, back-to-basics rave setting.

The first of the four one-off parties sees Black Strobe's Arnaud Rebotini, The Futureheads, Tiga's favourite Parisian Sweetlight (Turbo), Erol Alkan's latest wonder collaborators Mystery Jets, Bobby M (ISSST), Friendly Fires and more coming together in a Shoreditch (EC2A) warehouse for an apocalyptic DJ assault that will encompass bass heavy, skewed electro-techno, razor-sharp punk funk, biker house and warped art-rock.

Completing the line-up for the first of the rare SLAANG warehouse raves is Welfare For The Digital (Innuendo), Filth & Splendour (R U Dirty?), Clint Lee (Zombie Ate My Brain), Fonteyn (Computer Blue) and Jason Sparks & Ben Sun.
