PAUL GLAZBY INTERVIEW

1) How was your NYE?
Very good thanks, a lot of driving though!!!

2) How was your Xmas?
Great, Santa was very generous this year!

3) When you set up Vicious Circle did you ever think it would be so successful?
Not at all

4) What are your ambitions as a DJ in 2010?
To still be getting bookings in 2011

5) Have you got any holidays planned?
Yep, not till later in the year though

6) When is the next Vicious Circle Event?
Nothing planned at the moment

7) Have you played Tranzmission before?
I don’t think so

8) What are your ambitions for Vicious Circle this year?
To continue putting out quality music

9) Any early contenders for track of 2010?
It’s a bit early for that I think, I’m sure there are a lot of people with tricks up their sleeves yet!

10) Do you ever miss the days of mixing on Vinyl?
Sometimes but it’s been so long now I’m just used to it, I think I was one of the last people to move over completely to CD too, sometimes you just have to give in to technology, otherwise we’d all be getting to gigs in a Horse and Cart!!!!

11) Do you like playing longer sets?
Yes I do, building up over 6 or 8 hours is a challenge I like, maybe it’s time for a 10 hour set this year!

12) What music do you listen to when you are not playing Hard Dance?
I don’t think this is a surprise to anyone now, but, Metallica, Machine Head, Pantera, Five Finger Death Punch etc

ADAM M INTERVIEW

1) How was your NYE?
NYE was amazing! I played b2b with Farley @ Storm vs Passion 1st which was absolutely rammed & the atmosphere was something else! Then me & Andy jumped in the car for a road trip down to London where I played before Andy at Future Frantic. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Hidden so busy & the crowd where great as always. A great way to celebrate the NY!

2) How was your B2B with Andy Whitby at AWsum?
I really enjoyed playing b2b with Andy Whitby. This was something that a lot of people had been talking about before the gig so I was quite nervous. The set went really well and both our styles worked well together I thought. Andy with his tricks and more uplifting tracks then me to iron out the hard stuff haha. I would love to play b2b with him again sometime ;-)

3) You seem to like to include long forgotten classics in your sets. Is this something you have always done?
Yeah I always try to fit a couple of old tracks into my set. I’ve been in the studio a lot this year doing some bootlegs of some of my favourite tracks under various different guises. (J.A.M., Beauty & The Beast as well as a couple of cheeky bits with Karim!) You will hear a lot of these popping up in my up & coming sets.

Because I play quite hard I think it’s very important to build peaks into my set. If I were to just play nothing but the most upfront hard stuff I think the set would be quite flat and boring. By dropping the odd classic into your set you grab everyone’s attention and break the set up a bit.

4) What track never leaves your box?
Hmmm. I’d have to say ‘The Captain & RR Fierce – Street Tab (OD404 Remix)’

This track just sounds better every time I hear it!!

5) Can you mix on Vinyl?
Yes I can, I started out on Vinyl 11 years ago before CDJ’s where about. I have a vast vinyl collection collecting dust in JoJo’s basement lol. I’ve still got some 1210’s set up in my mixing studio so I do bang out a vinyl mix from time to time to see if I can still cut the mustard.

A lot of the old classics I play in my set are rips that I’ve done from my old vinyl collection.

6) What DJ's inspired you to pick up the headphones?
The 1st DJ that really caught my attention was Fergie. I saw him play at passion a few times before I started getting into DJing properly. I went along to the 1st ever STORM where Fergie was the 1st resident and I instantly wanted to be a hard house DJ. All my wages and free time went into my new found hobby from then on.

7) Have you considered using Traktor?
No I haven’t. I still don’t 100% know what Traktor is lol. I know most of the big minimal Techno DJ’s use it.

8) When is your next track due for release?
My new track with Andy Farley ‘SLAAAG!’ has just come out. It was the 1st release on ‘HI OKTANE RECORDS’ I will be in the studio early next month to do a solo track ready for the 2nd release… Watch this space ;-)

9) Any early contenders for track of 2010?
I’ve been sent a lot of tracks this year and the standards are soooo much better than last year. There are 2 that have really grabbed my attention.

• Tango & Kevsey D – Lucid
• Gary O’Connor - Humanoid

Both of these can be heard on my new Red Mix so check em out!

10) What are your ambitions as a DJ in 2010?
I would like to play a festival in 2010. Fingers crossed eh!

11) What music do you listen to when you are not making Hard Dance?
I tend to listen to Radio 1 in the car when I’m driving around Leeds. I’m quite narrow minded when it comes to different music genre’s. I’m a bit of a hard house geek!!

12) What is your favourite mixer?
It’s got to be the Pioneer DJM 800. It’s the Best mixer by far!! I still can’t understand why some clubs don’t have 1. I hate the Allen & Heath mixer grrrrr.

13) How are things going at RED DJ Agency?
Things are going very well. We have just taken 3 new artists onto the Red roster for 2010 (Rob Tissera, Ilogik & Paul Morrell) so I’m spending all my time on this at the moment. Busy, Busy, Busy!!

14) Have you played at Tranzmission before? What can we expect from your set?
No I haven’t. I’ve heard so many good things about this event so I’m really looking forward to it!

I’m playing b2b with Glazby at this 1 which will be good. It worked really well last time we played b2b at Westfest.

I’ve got a few new bits I’ve been working on ready to play so you will have to wait and see ;-)

Thanks Paul and Adam! Make sure you don’t miss their fierce hard as nails Hard House battle on Saturday 3rd April at Tranz-mission 2010!
