Interview with DJ Farina - Special Guest @ Launch of 'FIX' @ Anam this friday

This article is about FIX LAUNCH PARTY 8TH JUNE WITH SPECIAL GUEST FARINA @ Anam in London (UK), Fri 08 Jun 2007

1) Describe your musical style?
It's hard actually, i'd say deep and techy but not dirty or banging however i love the driving basslines and never normally play any thing fluffy but i love the odd delicate vocal.....am i confused??!! i wouldn't really label myself as anything.

2) You're resident and promoter for 'Wipe The Seat', tell us a bit more about it?
wipe the seat is a fresh promotion and i am so happy to be involved. We promote positivity and make an effort to make sure we attract the right crowd and invite djs that are of the same religion (if you know what i mean). I actually enjoy making the party happen more then djing!!

3) What top clubs/promotions have you played at in London or will be playing at?
well the clubs that are known to be the top in london probably include Egg, the Cross, Sin, Koko (that was probably my favourite big club to play at, never experienced anything like it, on that stage with everyones hands in the air i felt like micheal jackson!!!) some of my favourite promotions i play at have to be Wipe the Seat for sure as i can truely express myself, and Insomnia @ aquarium, it's not what you'd expect, it's a big club but the crowd are educated and know what they like and it's not protentious either which makes a party real for me. also i played for Retox recently which went down a storm, same goes, wiked vibe but just way too many people!!

4) Any international bookings in the pipeline?
yes i have a gig in Rome at the end of the month to play at a really successfull gay club which has been running since the 90's! so that will be fun! Also Wipe The Seat will Return to Africa this year to Play at a massive outdoor festival called Lake of Stars, my memory of the last one really is so amazing!

5) You've played on some of London best radio stations. Do you still do radio?
It's funny you ask that question1 I just packed it in the other day, when i was starting out i loved radio as it was great to boost confidence and get mixing up to scratch, however now i feel i have no time for radio and since playing out a lot more, it seems so boring to play for two hours to a wall! it's not quite the same to play out as it is to play on radio, as you know but i just love excitement and one of my beliefs are to do thngs you enjoy, the minute you don't just stop as it's not worth it for you. even though people say to continue!

6) What are your thoughts on the London scene right now? is minimal taking over?
to be completely honest, i am not a big fan of the london scene. what people are calling 'minimal' has been around sinnce the 90's and i just can't understand why people have just jumped on board. it's hard to find the right party with people who actually love the music as oppossed to people who are only there coz it's 'cool'. i remember two years ago when i started playing out i was playing sebo k and poker flat and mobilee and so many people didn't understand it. It's good now it's appreciated but i do wonder sometimes.........

7) Which labels/artists/producers music are you feeling right now?
well still loving Poker Flat and Mobilee but at the moment i am seriously feeling PLASMIK and am loving the stuff by Anthony Collins and Excersise one.

8) What is your most memorable moment as a dj?
well one clear one is playing my first gig at Insomnia, i came on after a dj who was playing some stompers and i slowly wound down to minimal so the crowd would just ride with me and i just couldn't believe the reaction at the drop of Jamie jones' remix of 'Driven' by ESTROE. Was nuts!

9) what is your worst or funniest dj moment?
well my worse has to be stopping the wrong record or cdj! not a good move but hey keeps things excitng!! and one of the funniest was when i did a mix with a Horse Head on, i don't know how i managed coz i was laughing so hard, but the Horse was in control!

10) When you find time away from music what do you find yourselves doing?
if i can't hear music i am either watching the news or am sleeping!

11) You're playing at the launch of the new weekly 'FIX' Party this friday @ Anam. Are you looking forward to this? What can we expect from your set?well it's difficult to say at this stage but it wil be on the lines of Deep and bouncy i think, seeing as it's intimate but we'll see at the time. yes i am looking forward to it, i'm happy to be doing the launch with you. bring it on!!

12) What are your top 3 tunes of the moment??
well three top top tunes??
Sebo K - TRANSIT (for months now, never lets me down)
NS Project - WALKING ON AIR
Plasmik - PITCH IT
