Ben Gold interview for Discover/MPFS/Prehab at AREA

This article is about Discover/MPFS/Prehab/Cerebral @ AREA in London (UK), Sat 12 Sep 2009

Ben, you're a busy man with productions, engineering and of course DJing. Any hot new gossip you've got to share?

I’ve just started work on my first album, which so far is going really well. I’m hoping to get a few vocal tracks on there too. No more remixes until at least the New Year now. My DJ diary is looking pretty healthy also, with dates at Amplified 1st Birthday in Derby, where I am now resident, Slinky in Bournemouth, Elusive in Leicester, Northern Ireland & Newcastle, all coming up over the next 6 weeks.

You've had releases on Ava, Flux Delux, Perfecto, Spinnin, Kill the Lights and of course Discover so any particular labels you're hoping to have a release on?

I have a label in mind that I would like to sign with, but until I finish the album, I’m not sure. It might work out that it would suit another label instead.

What's the difference between Ben Gold and Be:Gold? Any other aliases?

The BPM and groove. Be:Gold is slightly slower than the Ben Gold tracks, which means the groove can get intricate. I co-write/engineer for artists too, if you can call that an alias?

Is your inbox getting filled with as much spam as ours with regard to DJ mag top 100 voting and how close do you think you are to breaking into it?

Pretty much. This was the first year that I even thought about doing something to get some votes, but, I’m in no rush. There seems to be a lot of people pushing for votes with big campaigns on line, with little reason too, but I’m happy. I have to the time to develop my sound, and develop as an artist.

What do you think of the trance scene in London right now?

Pretty dyer to be honest. 4-5 years ago, parties like The Gallery, Peach, Trance Generation, Electronic Sessions were all holding weekly/monthly events, but slowly they all came to end, apart from the Gallery, which is still going strong. It refreshing to see a party like yours being put on, with a credible line up, in a intimate venue in London. I’m looking forward to it.

Finally, tell us a little bit about your Radio Show?

It’s called Life. It’s a 2 hour show, which gets broadcasted across the ah.fm network on the second Saturday of every month 18:00-20:00 (GMT). I am looking to make the show a lot more interactive as of next year, watch this space etc
