The Curiousity Club gets Persuaded!

This article is about The Curiousity Club @ Babalou (formerly The Bug Bar) in London (UK), Fri 08 May

Hi guys, it’s great to be speaking to you today. First and foremost, I understand that you were both DJing independently before you hooked up to work together as a DJ duo. How did this come about and where did the name The Persuaders come from?

Hi Lizzie, Great to be talking to you too, Yeah we were both playing independently for a good few years, then we met whilst working for a record company in London selling Dance Music all around the UK. It turned out we lived around the corner to each other, we got chatting and decided to form a partnership. Up until then we had both had moderate success and had played for some big promoters both in the UK and abroad, we were bang into the same styles of House Music so it made sense to start putting ourselves out there as a Djing duo.

The Persuaders name came about after us using others like Gould & Lee and Double Dose, both of those just didn't seem to work so we came up with The Persuaders, it turned out there was an old cop show in the 70's called The Persuaders, word is there is gonna be a film coming up with the same name so we've kinda decided to stick with it for a while I guess.

So tell us a bit more about The Persuaders – what can people expect from a Persuaders set and what producers are hitting the mark with you at the moment?

Producers like Miles Dyson, Stupid Fresh, Dabruck & Klein, Wolfgan Gartner and Deadmau5 are doing it for us at the moment. It all depends where we are playing and who we are playing for, generally, we'll play a mainly Electro House set that moves into a more progressive sound towards the back end with some wonky fidget style tracks thrown in for good measure. We can also be heard playing a vocal based House set at some of the parties.

So which DJs inspired you to take to the decks and who do you really rate today?

For both of us it was always the more Rave Dj's such as Carl Cox, Grooverider, Bukem, Slipmatt and some of the House Dj's like Danny Rampling and Sasha etc. Today Zabiela is our number 1 and wer'e also into Funkagenda and Morillo.

You have two key residencies in London. One for the famously fun & colourful house night Kidology, and the other with ElectronicSessions, whose sell-out boat parties have been rocking The Thames in London for several years! Tell us about how these residencies came about...

With Kidology, we started from the bottom of the ladder with helping to promote the night around town and was lucky enough to be given a warm up set at The Cross, this led to Mark giving us more sets and eventually a residency. With ElectronicSessions, we impressed the Sullivan brothers so much that they asked us to be residents.

Where can we catch you spinning over the coming months?

You can catch us at Kidology at various venues including Ibiza this year, ElectronicSessions boat parties, Ministry of Sound and for yourself of course!

What’s been your most memorable gig to date and why (we heard El Divino in Ibiza stayed open an extra hour last year for your gig coz you had the dancefloor so rammed!!)?

Yeah it was awesome, we didn't realise we were going to be playing the closing set and they kept the club open for us later than normal, it was blinding! But, the best gig to date would have to be our 4 hour set at The Egg a few weeks ago for Kidology, full on hands in the air experience, everyone up for it, rammed from box to bar and having it! Wicked!

Where do you see The Persuaders in five years time?

We wanna be playing on the International circuit reguarly as well as all the festivals here and abroad. We also wanna have our tracks and remixes signed to the biggest house labels and possibly have our own label and club night.

On that note we understand you have been putting in some serious work in the studio, how’s it all going?

Yeah we did a couple of remixes for Kidology and Gusto Records last year and and now we are focusing on our own productions so watch this space.

So what software do you use in the studio and do you have a favourite piece of kit?
We use Logic's EX Synths along with some Native Instruments gear and we are also getting into Ableton. Favourite piece of kit has to be the Kore 2 from Native instruments.

Now let’s delve a little deeper into what makes The Persuaders tick....

What do you like to do when you’re not DJing or in the studio?
Adam - I like chilling and usual stuff like restaurants, cinema and weekends away but not much time for all that!
Brett - Always busy but when I can I see the family and love watching the Arsenal.

You have a headline set at The Curiousity Club in London on 8th May, which is well-known for its Burlesque dress theme…are we going to see The Persuaders donning trilby hats and dressing up for the occasion?

Quite possibly, we will have to wait and see!!

What 3 things would you take on a dessert island with you?
Adam - A Piano, solar power light and a massive knife
Brett - Solar power generator (if it exists!), running my macbook pro and 100 crates of kronee!

And finally....tell us a joke :-)
A guy walks into the psychiatrist wearing only cling film for shorts. The shrink says "Well, I can clearly see your nuts!"

Thanks so much for your time guys….see you at Curiousity Club. ...we’ll be down the front!

Cheers Lizzie, we're really looking forward to it! See you there!
