This article is about DIRTY ANGEL MANSION PARTY !!! @ Beauberry House in London, Fri 13 Jul 2007
Hi guys (Gareth, Jason, Courtney & Dom) How did you guys meet and how did Dirty Angels come about?
(Gareth): Me, Jason & Courtney have known each other for years. We have a very large group of friends who all go out clubbing every weekend.
As a group we are mad, fun and up for anything. We defo add something to the events we attend. So we thought rather than keep making other people’s nights really good, why not start our own.
Some of our mates were just starting to blow up as DJ’s and we thought our night would be a perfect platform for them to showcase their skills alongside a crowd that loves them. Our first events were based in the Dust bar in Shoreditch. These nights started off really well; at first they had the feel of a cool private party, as the event was made up of just friends & friends of friends. However they soon got really well known for their atmosphere and before long we had more people at each event that we didn’t know, than we did.
The HoxtonWhores also played for us at our 2nd party and loved it and their continued support since then has really helped to put our event on the map. After 3 months at the Dust in Shoreditch, we were asked to move to Pacha & after smashing the upstairs bar on our first night we have been running the main room there up until April, when we moved to the Egg.
Dirty Angels has grown from strength to strength on the back of this Pacha residency & we now run a weekly Thursday event @ BR1, Bromley & have run events in all the major clubs in London during 2006 including the Cross on Boxing Day & Pacha NYE, due to this growth Dom join the team at the start of 2007 and he has been a great assist ever since.
The success of Dirty Angels has now given us the chance to start running some really Exclusive House music events, the type of events that we really started promoting to run, but just never had the following or contacts to pull off.
Tell us about the party's you have got on at the minute.
(Jason): The one event that we are running at the moment that everyone I meet wants to talk about is our new Mansion party. This event has taken us over 7 months, to confirm, book & plan. Our first Mansion party was a massive success with the event selling out a week before. We have made several improvements from the last Mansion party as well so this event will be even better. We also have our weekly Thursday event @ BR1 in Bromley which has now been running now for over a year. We have the place full to capacity every week with residents that include the Hoxtonwhores, Bimbo Jones, NonStop-Heroes, RPM DJ’s, Normski, Page Twins, HD-1. We have also enjoyed the pleasure of Special Guests including Oliver Lang & Bobby & Steve. This event is without doubt one of the busiest nights on a Thursday in the south east.
(Courtney): We also decided to end our residency @ Pacha & move to the Egg. We felt that we needed a change for our crowd & after an offer from Egg we thought this summer with their garden was a perfect time to move. So catch us down there on Saturday the 14th July for our next event.
(Gareth): Egg also has a garden where you can smoke after the smoking Ban which it a great!
Congratulations by the way on the mansion party, What have you got lined up for the next one?
(Gareth): Well as Jason explained this event has been over half a year in the planning. We have always wanted to run events more than club nights. Put on nights that people will remember for years & not weeks. The mansion with its capacity & facilities has now given us the platform to really give people a night of quality house music coupled with an extravagant event they will not forget.
(Courtney): That’s right this event is giving everyone the chance to experience a real Glitzy House event, how the scene used to be until everyone wanted to dress scruffy & listen to minimal music. What we believe is that we can have an event playing dirty / deep / electronic music, without taking the sexiness out of the event. Our motto for the Mansion parties is “Dress up to get Down”.
(Jason): We have again pulled out all the stops to get a DJ line up that will beat any of the major London clubs that night. Go to www.dirty-angels.co.uk for details. Each room has a mix of legends in that genre and future superstars & of course Ricky & Si the RPM DJ’s.
Now a little about you guys who is the best dj/dj's that have played at one of your party's
(Jason): Well one of the best things about us is that we all like slightly different sounds & DJ’s. This really helps to keep Dirty Angels fresh & also help us to play a wide spectrum of House music. The NonStop heroes are personal fav's as well as Aarron le doubles.
(Courtney): He might not be that well known YET!, but for me the best ever DJ to play @ a Dirty Angel event is our very own resident HD-1. He consistently rocks every event we run & is someone we always get asked when he is on the decks “who is this playing now? He is wicked”. He is the standard that all the other DJ’s follow @ our events & is a name to one to watch out for in the future!
(Gareth): Every time the HoxtonWhores play they blow the roof off any venue we are in. They have become firm favorites with the Dirty Angel crowd. However my favorite DJ to play for Dirty Angels is Femi B. His style of Deep Pumping, Electro tinged House gives me the felling I am listening to the UK’s version of our very own Dennis Ferrier.
Whats your favorite track at the minute
(Gareth): I am a promoter I don’t know the names of tracks. Hee…hee…
(Courtney): Exactly some of our funniest moments are when we have tried to hum a tune to a DJ that we want him to play before his set.
(Dom): System by D.Ramirez & Mark Knight -It’s just one of those tunes I can just listen to over and over and always dance like an idiot too!
(Jason): - (he tries to hum a tune)Hmmmm, Hmmmmm, hmmmm, bam, boom boom, ding. Nah can’t remember the name of my tune either.
Who is the DJ at the top of your wish list to play at one of your party's.
(Gareth): Dennis Ferrier no one can touch him for me at the mo. There are tons of DJ’s I would love to book & loads we have wanted to book and are now getting the chance to – LOOK OUT for events we have coming up with Jonathan Ulysses, Pete Gooding, Gordon Edge and many more.
(Courtney): Yeah after Soul Heaven @ Ministry of Sound last year it would have to be Dennis Ferrier & Kerri Chandler those guys are on another planet. That was my event of last year, not including Dirty Angel events of course. Haha
(Jason): Pete Tong, his pure Pacha nights in Ibiza are a standard we always try and reach. I think it would also say a lot about Dirty Angels if we got to a stage where we were booking Pete Tong in London.
(Dom): Fat Boy Slim, he has been a favorite of mine for years his sound is constantly evolving & like Jason’s said I feel that if we booked him it would really be massive for Dirty Angels. Also Oliver Huntemann would be great, but he is a bit too dark for the Dirty Angel crowd at the mo.
How do you think the industry is changing and will change over the next 10 years coming from a promoters point of view.
(Gareth): Well over the last few years we have seen a move away from the Glitz of club land to a more electro / minimal indie scene. This I believe will continue to grow and more and more small to medium size dance festival events will start to pop up. However on the other side I think the Glitzy nights will come back with a BANG as Vocal electro becomes the new main sound to replace Funky House. At Dirty Angels we aim to play great House music showcasing every style of house & not get sucked into short lived music fads.
What venue in the UK and the world do you want to host a party in that you have not yet?
(Courtney): Without doubt the venue I would love to promote an event at would be Summerset House in London. London is my NO.1 place to go out in, in the world & I just think this venue is London. It is classically old, classy & when I have been to events there before it has such a unique atmosphere in the courtyard; you can’t help but be blown away.
(Jason): Koh Samui (Full moon party), to run an event somewhere like this would be unbelievable. It is without doubt one of the best clubbing events in the world.
(Gareth): Pacha Ibiza or DC10, every time I have been there it has made me want to sell my House and move to Ibiza, I could go to either of these clubs everyday. To run an event there would be something else.
and finally if you could be any colour crayon what would you be.
(Jason): Blue and white after the all famous spurs! (Dom) : Red- because it’s the colour of my eyes after a weekend out! (Gareth): Pink because it makes the boys blink! ;) (Courtney): Red also because I’m a gooner and I have to disagree with Jay!
Cheers guys
