What Does Hard House Academy Mean To You?

This article is about Hard House Academy: The 8th Birthday @ Brixton Academy in London (UK), Sat 18 Oct 2008

What does HHA mean to you? This is the tough question that our A-list DJs have been pondering this week while they prepare their sets and outfits for the “Back In Black” Hard House Academy next Saturday 18th October. You can feel the passion in their answers, the anticipation and in one case the randomness!

So take a deep breath, have a gander, and prepare to wet yourself with excitement!

Chuck-E & Jon The Baptist

Frantic- Hard House Academy! The name is synonymous with hard dance in the UK, and clubbers world wide. We already know it’s the biggest hard dance club event in the world, set in 1 of the finest venues, which is also London’s largest!! Being the flagship event for the UK’s biggest party organizers makes this an extra special occasion for us to debut here, and be a part of something that will go down in history! It has a huge line up of Hard House and UK hard dance with all the Frantic DJ’s and some very special guests from the UK and overseas! We are also very proud to be representing the European Hard Trance sound @ Frantic once again, which shows Frantic’s multicultural hard dance diversity. We look forward to rockin’ it!!!

HHA means Big Room tunes in a massive arena & one of best parties in the
world!

HHA was one of the 1st hard house nights I ever went to, got sooo many good memories from back in the day when Phil Reynolds & Andy Farley were the residents. Such a good atmosphere & one of the best venues I’ve ever been to!

BK

Hard House Academy is one of the biggest events in the HD calendar.
I remember playing my first one and being really nervous. It’s wicked to play at Brixton because it’s a major venue and has seen some of the biggest acts in the world play its stage. HHA will rival any of those guys for production and atmosphere.

I recently played Q Base in Germany and there were a shed load of Dutch people telling me that they were coming over to see me play at HHA.
These guys have some of the best parties in the world on their doorstep yet they can't wait for HHA because the atmosphere is second to none.

JimBean

To me it’s one of the best hard house nights of the year and to be held at Brixton Academy – the biggest and best venue in London – I’m really looking forward to playing there as an up & coming DJ. The atmosphere is amazing with the Frantic crowd, they know how to make you feel welcome.

HHA to me means exactly that- Hard House Academy! Almost like the school for Hard House, you go to learn and come away educated! Some of my best clubbing moments and certainly DJ gigs have been in that legendary foyer. I remember my 1st ever set there and it was something I will never forget- there is nothing more mindblowing that walking through those huge grand doors and into a rocking entrance! But looking back, HHA has always meant quality really. From DJ's to production to sound systems. It truly is an exceptional experience and I am no doubt that the 18th October 2008 will be no exception- I cannot wait!

During my time in Lab4, Brixton Academy was always my favourite venue and HHA was without a doubt the best event (s) that we played there. The Frantic crowd was and still is one of the best and when you invite such a crowd into such an awesome venue that has been crammed with 1st class sound and light, lasers and projectors along with the usual quality HHA DJ line up... it's sure to be another inspiring and memorable event!

Now I have the chance to show some new ones and to remind some old ones just what Frantic and HHA was and still is all about!!!!!!

Well the Historical Housing Association represents 1,500 privately owned houses, castles and gardens, of which approximately 350 are regularly open to the public. The cost of running these houses is around £80 million per year and they attract over 15 million visitors from the UK and abroad.

Technikal

Hard House Academy represents to me the pinnacle of UK hard dance clubbing. The scale, production, and of course the music is the biggest and best you'll get on these shores. I can't wait to play Brixton Academy again, it is an honour!

Andy Rise

HHA is the whole package for a Hard Dance event. The venue is amazing, the sheer size and look of the venue does it for me. Sitting up in the balcony looking down on the chaos of the main room going off has to been seen to be believed! With having so many rooms open all styles of Hard Dance are catered for, from your big main room anthems through to the filth and NRG in the foyer. Brixton Academy is one of my fave venues I’ve ever been to, cant wait to get back in there for the 8th birthday.

Matt Pickup

Hard House Academy means so much to me because it was the first place I played at for Frantic in 2006. The atmosphere is second to none, it brings a real smile to my face to see the foyer rammed too.

Phil Reynolds

HHA is the biggest and best showcase for the best hard dance DJ's around today. For me playing the main room has always been awesome. It's such a thrill to play to such a big room and can't wait to play the closing set.

Nathalie Bason

Having been to the past four Hard House Academies and having loved every single one of them, HHA has undoubtedly become one of my favourite events and an essential in my clubbing and DJ calendar! When asked where I'd most like to play, I have always said it would be a dream to play at Brixton Academy and now it’s actually going to come true, I could explode with excitement! I'm so happy to see HHA back in 2008 with such an immense line-up and the legendary Filth Foyer! With many of the greatest hard house DJs playing at one of the greatest hard house events and venues in the UK, you would be a fool to be anywhere else other than HHA on October 18th!

Kevsey D

For me HHA is by far the best hard house event around; 4500 clubbers from all over the country embarking on a night of top quality!! I have always walked out of Brixton Academy very satisfied and amazed by the music, atmosphere, production, lighting and pure brilliance of everything that has been thought of and put into the night. Bring on the 18th Oct!!!!

Cally Gage

Hard House Academy has to be the biggest party in the year and I am SOOOOOOO looking forward to it, I can’t bloody wait. The first time I went to HHA I was completely blown away by the venue and that main room – wow, is all I can say! So much effort goes into making this event so special and you’re never let down by the Frantic team. I’ve had this event circled in my diary all year and to be given the opportunity to play on that main stage is something that I’ve dreamed about - dreams really do come true!! So make sure you all come along to HHA this year, as you’ll be blown away just like I was and completed gutted if you don’t – I can assure you!!!

Caz Wood

Hard House Academy is an event close to my heart as a clubber, so to be playing there is a dream come true! My first ever HHA at Brixton Academy was in 2004 - it was a fantastic night, the whole event was an explosion of outstanding lighting, great music and mind-blowing atmosphere and I was completely hooked from that event! I remember being overwhelmed by the venue, (a feeling you never lose – this venue is immense!) and walking into the Academy through the main front entrance I felt as if I was walking into a millionaire’s mansion! The marble floor and high ceiling of the opening hall was impressive and you could really make a grand entrance into the building! Sweeping staircases each side of the foyer led your eyes up the stairs, and as you walked through the doors into the main arena the shear size and grandness of this venue was breathtaking. One of my most memorable experiences of HHA (and there are a few!!!) was in February 2006 when I went to HHA vs HQ and saw Andy Whitby, Lisa Pin UP, Kutski, Cally Gage and Steve Hill amongst others playing! I remember Kutski playing his first ever back to back with The Organ Donors and them opening with an explosive Scratch off, we were at the front of the dancefloor and the whole room was packed and going crazy!!! Happy days and more to come, roll on HHA 8!

Proteus

HHA @ Brixton Academy is the centre of all hard dance, it's the most ultimate event of hard dance at the ultimate venue, it's great honour and highlight to every hard dance artist/DJ to play there.

Cally & Juice
For us HHA is one of the pinnacles of our DJ calendar. We were invited there 6 years ago by Frantic and decided to pop along to see what the London Hard House scene was all about. From the moment we walked up those stairs and sat on the balcony, watching the Tidy Boys smash it out, with a sea of people bouncing up and down on the main floor and another 1000 people standing up on the balcony going mental we were hooked. We must have sat there for 2 hours, jaws dropped in awe at what we were seeing and hearing. We must have said 100 times “One day I hope it’s us on that stage” never thinking it would actually come true. It’s every DJ’s dream!

Exactly 12 months later, our dream became a reality and we were booked for that mighty main stage. We never get nervous before gigs, only excited but the butterflies were in overdrive as we stood at the side of the stage waiting to go on. The walk from the steps across that stage to the DJ booth seemed to take an eternity. Once we’d got the first couple of tunes under our belt we relaxed a bit and made a point of absorbing what was happening. We were completely blown away by the whole occasion. The view from the stage is mind blowing. Because of the sloping floors you have the very rare opportunity to see every single person in that arena at the same time. To any budding DJ’s out there who have sat up in that balcony wondering what it’s like to play HHA main stage, it’s even better than you could possibly imagine. We’re genuinely honoured to be asked back to grace the main stage once again. This will be our 16th set at HHA and our 6th time on the main stage and the thrill of playing at this event hasn’t diminished one bit. In fact, because there’s only one of these events each year now, we’re probably more excited to play HHA this time than ever before.

So what does HHA mean to us? Everything! This is what makes the years and years of practicing on the decks worthwhile. This is what it’s all about! We promise we won’t let anyone down because intend to give it 110% and smash from start to finish!

JP & Jukesy

HHA has always been a BIG BIG event on the Hard House scene. It’s up there with the Tidy Weekenders & Global Gatherings as one of the most prestigious events to be a part of. Ever since our first visit to Brixton Academy a few years back to play for Frantic we have been itching to get back, especially into that foyer. The size of the venue is just crazy, from the HUGE main room, to the vast foyer where the harder beats have usually been dished out over the years. We have got fond memories of Glazby ripping the foyer to pieces as well as Farley doing the closing sets in the main room... We really can’t wait to hit the foyer in October, it’s going to be a quality night!

So if you’ve not been before, as you can see from these comments, it’ll be a night you’ll remember forever. And if you’ve been before, well – you know just how good it’ll be! So we’ll see you next weekend, wear your blackest black and don’t forget about the DSI Mega-Spot, the photo will be taken from the main stage at midnight!

Add yourselves as going to the event listing.

And don’t forget the afterparty!
