1) When did you realise that you were going to make a career in music and how did it all begin?

When i was at boarding school in my teenage years, I spent most of my time in the music room modifying and playing the pianos and electronic synths. I was also constantly forming bands to jam with. I had many passions but it seemed to be the one that made most sense with the skills I had. It happened naturally but I was sent to piano and singing lessons at a very young age which gave me a fabulous foundation to understand the intricacies and history of music.

2) Who are your musical inspirations from back in the day and from more recent times?

Probably the disco and progressive legends and producers, Giorgio Moroder, Frank Zappa, Ryuchi Sakamoto, Trevor Horn, Brian Eno & Alan Parsons to name but a few. From recent times producers like Zdar, Oizo, James Murphy, The Dewali Brothers, Andrew Weatherall & Jagz Kooner, all will be remembered in the future for the constant quality of their output.

3) Do you think that these days you have to be a good DJ AND a good Producer to stand a chance of making it big?

Its all about the 360 model these days, it also goes hand in hand. I don't really know any Djs that aren't involved in making their own tunes these days, unless you are a promoter as well and you tour your party. It's a perfect relationship to do both, make music when you aren't travelling is a good idea no?

I have just bought the Clavia Nord Wave. It's incredible, I love the built in effects so you don't have to do it in post production, amazing live machine to work in depth. I've always been a Nord fan and use my Nord Lead 3 for everything as i know it inside out. I also love my Roland Jupiter 6 for the creativity. Software wise i use Ableton and Logic on a mac and they are my best friends, i try and use hardware where possible and avoid plugins.

5) What's your favourite peak time tune at the moment?

I'm playing mostly my own tunes these days, so blatant promo here. My new EP is called 'You Cant Dance' & 'Fat Controller', its on www.SouthernFriedRecords.com and it's a tech house monster that's been doing damage all over the world and getting great support.

6) You've been smashing it in Ibiza all summer, tell us about one of your favourite moments from the White Isle this year?

So many amazing times this year, playing my first Thomas Gandey Live show on the Space terrace for We love Space was a special night. All my crew were there to support and it was quite magical, the best way to close the Summer in Ibiza after a series of shows.

7) After such a successful year whats next on the horizon for Thomas Gandey?

We are still releasing a new EP every month on Southern Fried, theres more to come this year and then we have some very special collaborations to announce shortly. I will be playing more DJ and live shows and plan to keep releasing solid dance records as well as remixes and productions.

8) What can we look forward to ahead of you set at Brixton Jamm for Scene Not Herd on 5th November?

Its going to be fun playing with my good friends Deepgroove, we have done a lot of parties together in Ibiza and it's always fantastic to party with them and play in London. I have a lot of crew in Brixton who will be coming down for the party. But set wise expect a load of exclusive material my own edits and productions plus i've been told there will be fireworks, face painters, AV shows so expect the whole Ibiza package!

9) If you could give one, all important bit of advice to up and coming DJ's and Producers what would it be?

Stick to your guns don't follow the pack, keep it simple and always make music from the heart, dont get bogged down by technicalities a good groove is all you need, learn from other people. work hard and be nice to people!!!

Thanks and see you at Jamm x
