Hi Rasslin,
You have been a DJ for over 10 years,What made you decide to become a DJ in the first place and what music inspired you?
My very first DJ inspiration was; Terminator X (DJ of Hip Hop Group Public Enemy)
Attending my first all night rave party 'Seduction' @ The Lido Complex Margate, which was my introduction into the underground dance music scene; i heard Dave Jameson (Seduction/Telepathy/SunriseFM) who was a rave scene 'hoover sound' don! & without any doubt my biggest inspiration and prompted me to commence mixing between the vinyl platter & tape decks on my bedroom hi-fi.
I've read that your biggest performance so far was to a crowd of 10,000 how did that feel ?
Wicked!
This was; Underground Alternative Festival (1999) A well organized event by Subterranean Promotions (Manchester); it really was like a mini Glastonbury and could of been the launch of a proper annual music event (but sadly the event has now become a very commercial enterprise with failed X-Factor/Popstars contestants playing the main stage). I was dropping breakbeat tunes like Prodigy's Breathe, Setting Sun by Chemical brothers, Song #3 (Blur) TerrorVison's Tequila, Propellerheads, setting up a festival atmosphere & Linking the gaps between indie/rock bands Dodgy, Black Belt Jones, Gonzo, & The Asian Dub Foundation.
You are famed for your "big house" crowd pleasing approach to playing out, how do you see the music scene changing over the next year?
I am already hearing a cleaner electronic sound emerging with some deep vocals, bouncy rifts & melodic uplifting elements > heavy, phat & phunky! "House Music All Night Long.............Say What!"
If you could work with anyone that you haven't done so far who would it be?
I would love to go B2B 6 hour set with my all time DJ hero; MR. CARL COX
Your now a regular on the London clubscene looking back whats your fondest memory or most bizarre moment ?
Playing "Setting Sun" as the sun set @ UAF everything else has merged into one big happy blurrrrrr!!!
Any sound advice for aspiring DJs and is there a quick route to success ?
Practice makes perfect! and to quote the late great Roy Castle of Record Breakers fame; "Dedication is what you need, if you wanna be the best & stand out from the rest"
It pains me to say it but; make a successful tune! > but i am firmly of the opinion that not all producers are automatically great Djs.
Finally, any shouts?
