Intel dj-vj Laptop Battle

This article is about Intel DJ VJ Laptop Battle 2007 @ Cargo in London (UK), Wed 27 Jun 2007

Intel Core 2 Duo have teamed up with Cargo and organised a one-off event aimed at introducing the unsigned raw talent that we know are out there to the world.

We're looking for 4 laptop DJ's and 4 VJ's to play alongside some world-class hands at a unique event at one of London's finest clubs.

All you need to do is submit an example of your work (click here for formats) - Your work will then be judged by a team of audio/visual experts and the best two will be asked to join us on the 27th June at Cargo, and you'll be given a brand new Intel powered laptop to perform with.

The VJ content will be automatically added to this website and soundtracked by an exclusive A-Skillz track, so even if you don't win it's a fantastic way of showcasing your stuff!

A-SKILLZ

"As a touring DJ my laptop has been an absolute godsend! I can create and re-edit music on planes trains and hotel rooms, then play the tracks (as well as anything in my iTunes library) in a club the same night on real piece of vinyl with out having to carry a bag of heavy records around! As well of course as always having my emails, diary, documents (basically anything I need) to hand at any time."

YODA

"These days my laptop is my new record box. In fact it's also my new diary, photo book, record shelves, and about ten billion other things too. But for live performance, it's allowing me a whole new level of creativity."

BOPA

"My work would be much harder without my laptops. I use two when I perform. Thanks to them I can be much more mobile and take on bigger challenges on an international level."

VJ ANYONE

"I've been delivering live visuals for 10 years now, and so far I've always preferred using laptops for their portability and versatility. Specialised hardware used to be better at specific things like real-time 3d rendering or adding effects on live video streams but now as they become evermore powerful, they take an even more central place in my work."

As Higher Status Events pulling the event together we've been helping sift through the entries and there really is every genre of music covered from breaks to electro to hard dance to hiphop to er...Tom Jones and Justin Timberlake! And some really diverse imagery on the VJ front too. There's only 1 wk to go before the entry closing date and plenty of room for more entries so I'd strongly urge anyone who takes their career seriously and wants to get ahead to get in there and enter: the odds are good and the prizes awesome!

Also, a reminder for partygoers to get on and register for tickets for the exclusive free party (with some free drinks tokens!) as you'll automatically be entered into a laptop draw entry with another laptop draw for feedback after the event. So what i'm trying to say here is...get on it!

Does anyone have any information about ticket prices if you want to watch the event - can't seem to find any on the site or cargo's site?!!! Cheers, mandy :)

Does anyone have any information about ticket

I fear you may be too late, but not sure. I had to enter to get into the ticket draw a few weeks ago, but you may still be able to register on the website. Yas is the person who may be able to help you more, I would think ;O))

Am slightly confused about tickets:

The official website has a link to win free tickets, which says it's closed now, but there's no information about how to get any other kind of tickets.

The Cargo website says "tickets only available from official website" but then see above.

Unless this means there were only a limited number of tickets and they have all gone (which sounds odd for Cargo on a Wednesday night to have sold out).

I'm not sure if I can go or not*, but what's the situation here?

* Anyone know what time it finishes? Now I don't live in London, it makes a difference.

It IS all a bit weird this ticket stuff... I entered a few weeks ago, & have entrance for me plus one - & I've also heard that it's going to be rammed... really at a loss as what the situation is?!

* Anyone know what time it finishes?

1 am - not too late, thankfully, as I have work the next day, & no way can I pull a day off!

Ok let's clear this up! Intel organised a registration draw for tickets as it's an exclusive filmed event and not a regular club night open to a walk-in crowd on the night. The audience will be a mix of Intel & various media agency corporates, industry professionals scouting the scene and then the draw which was open to all people who registered at various DJ/VJ/clubbing sources over the past several weeks before the closing date.

The official website has a link to win free tickets, which says it's closed now, but there's no information about how to get any other kind of tickets. That's 'cos there aren't any other kind of tickets! See above...

The Cargo website says "tickets only available from official website" but then see above. That's 'cos the closing date has gone.

Unless this means there were only a limited number of tickets and they have all goneTickets were oversubscribed 4 times over the full Cargo capacity but you had to get in before the closing date.

* Anyone know what time it finishes?Competition winners will be announced at midnight. Night closes 1am.

Honestly DaveNewt & Loutastic you of all people have no excuses, it's been in our newsletters and group mails these past several weeks!!

However, the good news is there have been some last-minute cancellations so if anyone would like to send me names+email addresses of anyone who can definately fill a place I will see if I can pass them on. Awesome line-up, talent of the future, free drink+more...can't be bad! ;-)

Thanks, Yas - that's all I needed to know, and neither Intel nor Cargo's sites explained this.

Lou should know, since fleabag's in it :-) I'm not a DJ so paid no attention until the finalists were announced.

I'd love to but it turns out I'm travelling away for work on Thursday, so can't really do it... :-(

;O)) - I went into the draw for tickets on the off chance fleabag might have got in - & he did!! But in my defence, I pretty much forgot about it until the good news came from Yas that he did get in!! *hangs head in shame*

Note to self - pay more attention to the whole thing other than for boyfriend's fortune in future. ;O)

See you tomorrow Yas - really, really excited, & Dave - I'm sure you're just scared to come into the same place as me really... :O))
