1. So, it’s been a while since we spoke, over a year in fact. Tell me, what’s been going on in the world of MDA & Spherical since then?

It has indeed been a while eh? The world of MDA & Spherical has been pretty fantastic really, 2009 has definitely been our biggest year yet! Things really picked up with us becoming part of the AWsum collective late last year and this led on to some massive bookings at Frantic, Polysexual, Storm and Bionic amongst others. On the production front we have been stupidly busy releasing tracks on Masif, AWsum and Tidy; 3 of the best labels in the scene. The year certainly isn’t over yet and we have many more exciting things in the pipeline. One that tops the list though is mixing our debut compilation CD: Masif Hard Dance Anthems 3. This has been a dream for us since we started DJ’ing and we're massively looking forward to the release!

2. Recently you’ve been signed to AWsum, Andy Whitby’s label. How did that come about and what do you think it’s done for you?

Around the time that came about we were having a long hard look at the sound we were making, doing a bit of soul-searching if you like. Some of our music had become a bit too serious. To us Hard Dance should have a fun element and not take itself too seriously. Mr. Whitby randomly approached us to become part of the AWsum team and it seemed like a perfect fit to our 'Uplifting Party Hard Dance' sound. Next thing you know, bam, there we are. It’s definitely a good decision and has won us more exposure at some of the bigger events in the scene. It’s allowed us to play a great variety of gigs, from great intimate settings like Magnetix where you can really get in with the crowd, to the huge main arenas of Frantic and Poly's where it’s all about that big room sound!

3. One of your collaborations with Technikal made its way onto his “Klubbed Together” Album. Do you guys have any plans for your own album anytime soon?

Yes. It’ll be ready for release in 2014.

4. Out of all the people whom you have worked with, who was your favourite and why?

Working with Steve Hill is always a pleasure. He brings a great dynamic to the studio and knows exactly what will work on the dance floor. There’s a reason as to why he’s as globally successful as he is. Besides, he brings Penn State Sour Cream & Chive Pretzels with him and that’s never a bad thing. Steve introduced us and we’ve never looked back.
Other than that, working with Alf (Technikal) is always a good laugh. Three people all shouting at the screen and fighting over the controls as to change what next is all good fun and keeps you on your toes. Besides, his cat Chopper never ceases to amaze as he manages to sleep peacefully in front of the ear bleedingly loud speaker.

5. And is there anyone else left out there that you would like to work with, but have not yet had the chance?

Quite a few to be honest! Unfortunately some of these have retired or changed genres, such as The Edison Factor (James Lawson & Matt Williams), Nick Sentience, Rowland & Wright for starters. There are some legends that have been in the scene for years, of which BK, Andy Farley, Paul Maddox and Rob Tissera all spring to mind. Of the newbies into the scene, we’ve pencilled in Klubfiller for a studio date, and Matt Gammer is quite tempting!

6. Lots of producers have aliases for tracks released in other genres, or for those that they don’t or can’t be associated with. Do you guys have any aliases?

We cannot confirm nor deny the rumours but we may have a hand in the Beastie Snax remixes that were released first on vinyl and now re-launched in digital format. For those who haven’t heard, you’re definitely out of touch…

7. Lots of leading Hard Dance DJs/producers also have fingers in other pies, namely promoting or running a label. Does either of these interest you as possible future ventures?

It certainly seems to be a natural step that many artists take and it’s easy to see the reasons why. It definitely allows you to work with & discover new artists and in turn try and improve the scene by putting out more quality music. With that in mind it’s without doubt something we are open to. Who knows, wait and see!

8. You’re set to play the main stage of Brixton Academy very, very soon. What did it feel like when you were asked to play?

Absolutely fantastic! It’s always been very near the top of our ‘Would Give Left Arm To Do’ list. The Brixton Academy main stage is an arena of truly epic proportions that has hosted most of the biggest names in the music industry; Madonna, Iron Maiden, The Prodigy and hundreds more have all graced this stage. Combine this with the huge production value that Frantic always put into HHA and this should make it a really memorable experience!

9. You seem to have moved away from your live PA “Welcome 2 the Future” recently. Why is this?

Yes that’s true. For us, it got to a stage where we had some stressful sound issues during performances and because of that we were just enjoying DJ’ing more. To be honest, we still end up playing mostly our own material in sets just without the live element anyway! Having said this, we do have plans for a very special one off live performance with a good friend in the Hard Dance scene. This will be more of a live mash up vs. Showcase, so watch this space!

10. You two are almost like part of the furniture at Club 414, having graced the decks on several occasions. What is it about the venue that keeps on drawing you back?

Heh, yeah it’s definitely been a few old times! We have some great memories of playing the likes of Zoology and Puzzle Project. It’s a venue where you are a bit freer to experiment with your sound. Most of the clientele there seem to have quite an open mind when it comes to music, proven by the variety of sounds contained within the usual Magnetix nights and this makes it the perfect event for us to test out new tracks and material.

11. Although you might be 414 veterans, this will be your first time at Magnetix. What can our crowd expect from you on the night, and what should we be looking out for?

It will be the first time we play our newly finished Tidy EP in their final versions, but other than that just expect our usual energetic, uplifting party vibe. See you on the dancefloor!

See you at the Magnetix Halloween Ball chaps!
