D.J Supreme: The huge Summit Beat Feast Interview!
As before Summit play officially for the floor, ALWAYS striving then delivering to you the main party crew - just that little bit more…!;)
Well once again without exception, the Summit crew come through, so if we tantalise you just that little bit more and take you back to the ‘day’ where EVERY D.J would have an R.S.R Record in their box, and the sheer mention of the name alone would send a flutter round an arena.
I have only seen the next artist perform once - when he played an Old Skool '94' hardcore set at Freeformation a few years ago.. Yes he smashed it up! My words to him when leaving after the set where: “Bring back R.S.R!” He turned and smiled… Who would of thought that years ahead of our own time line - just that very action was carried out!?? But NOT just R.S.R as a record label- the build up to some of the South Coasts FINEST artists who have created and pioneered the pivotal NEW sound of today’s hardcore. Fusion being the vessel to sale the sounds out - to us the ravers!
Today we can positively say that the sounds are very much becoming Turbulent…He plays far and wide across the land and across the sea, ladies and gentlemen it’s:
D.J SUPREME!
Supreme it is a total honor and pleasure talking to you today! I have been absolutely captivated by your sounds since day one now, and you were also the very first mix tape that I used to MC over back in 94 - from Helter Skelter Keeping the Fire Burning!!! –
How are you sir and how is your 2009 shaping up so far?
“Yes 2009 has been the best year for me as far as D.Jing playing out and bookings, it’s been my busiest year since starting back in 92. I’ve been playing all major events in this year’s calendar most H.T.I.D events all Uproar –N.B.R, Ravers Reunited, Fusion, Distraction, Hardcore Evolution, Ravers Are, Oxygen and Plus 8. I’m doing loads of stuff up north which I’m loving the crowd are good and understand the music been doing Hull-Doncaster-Grimsby-Manchester- to name a few I’m playing at these festivals as well: Fantazia, Global Gathering, Sothern Sound, and Dance Island! -So yeah it’s been pretty busy, and it’s getting busier in September and October, so 09 best year in the old diary and still going on.”

You are now known to play at an international destination! Have you been lucky so far this year to venture outside the U.K, and can you share one of / or some of your wildest memories so far from your travels?! : )
”This year I have not taken abroad bookings to be honest because it’s been so busy in the U.K. I wanted to smash it here and get my name up there try and break into the top 10 U.K Hardcore artists, and keep it there so I’ve been trying to stay away from abroad. In the last 12 months I have been across to Germany 3 times and Australia also H.T.I.D in Llorret I’ve had things from U.S.A come in and different enquiries from various countries but nothing to fit my schedule so far,so maybe late 2009 or 2010 - who knows”..
Can you tell us - how on earth did you and the rest of the crew decide to re release the mighty R.S.R as a record label!?
“Well R.S.R has been taking over by the mighty Ramos - he now runs R.S.R with his partner in crime D.J Punchy. It has tracks from our previous times working together, but nothing I have had any involvement with up to now. They have loads of tracks ready for release and 2009 should be good for them - I’m sure we will work on some new projects at some point.”
How would you say that you have been effected by the: Vinyl - Digital switch? - Do you still play vinyl?; )
“Well with regards to vinyl I have to be honest I have not played on 1210s for a while.. I still have my vinyl but all my new material is on C.D so it’s been the pioneer 1000s that have had a beating this year, we do release our material on vinyl and download so still try to keep it out there for the vinyl lovers.”
How are you feeling about playing at Summit on the 8th of August!?
“I’m well looking forward to London again! - I have not played in London for a while and some of my best dj memories have been in London. I used to love playing out at Labyrinth,Wembley,Bagleys and SE1! They were great times ,the London crowd generally are into their break beat style of music but the people that are into the new sound of hardcore love it and know the music, they are up for it. - Also UFO said it was awesome last time that he played there so - yeah! - I'm looking forward to the event.”
Your sets always have and still do stand out in terms of hardcore! What are you looking for in a set and do you have much preparation before playing out!?
“In terms of preparation for a set it’s constant. I'm always in the studio working every day with mr UFO, and we work so well together - we just seem to be on the same wavelength and are into the same style. For me it’s got a lot harder in the groove and sounds we are using making everything shorter i.e. kick, bass and snare so there is loads of punch in the track. I'm always looking for the next idea! - My sets at the moment consist of loads of wicked tracks!!!! I’ve got loads of Futureworld promos im playing loads of Chaos stuff loads of Mob,s tunes a few Quosh a good variety of tunes in my set all with a bouncy tough edge, loads of vocals and always uplifting just the way I like it.” ;)
Turbulence Hardcore is a brand new, exciting sound of U.K hardcore on the block! The dynamics of this sound are very upbeat but also offering a nice variety of hardcore - as it SHOULD be! - Please tell us, how did Turbulence come about and what it’s about for the good people out there!?: )
”Turbulence Hardcore is part of Turbulence Records which is a commercial based vocal anthem label run by Russell Bile’s with across the board mixes on each release from the Future Freakz electro to full on club smashers such as: The Beat Commanders, Kenny Hayes remixes to Styles and Breeze. They release one or two tracks a month and Turbulence Hardcore get there filthy little mitts on them and convert them into hardcore anthems, it’s another great formula that works rearlly well! Every release on Turbulence have been taken by major record labels such as A.A.T.W for bigger video releases so it’s nice to be part of such an awesome label we have had the chance to work with some great singers and producers and there is loads more coming up - I think we have 9 or 10 releases ready to release in 2009 so look out for them.”
Sticking with Turbulence Hardcore - you have made outstanding collaborations with the likes of Mr Joey Riot (Bassline Thunder!) and also the supremely talented vocals of Cat Knight! Can you let us in to any other future collabs and projects with miss Knight *only if there not too top secret..;);)
”Future collaborations there are loads going on!!!! We have worked with Stuart Hughes from Ultimate Devotion on Forever Young, which is doing well in the clubs at the moment. Me and UFO are doing a few projects with Mr Breeze - I think that we have 3 projects on the go... UFO and Breeze have just had one taken by A.A.T.W for a full release and I’m sure that there will be a video with that track too, I am also working with: Paradise, Scott Brown, Stuart Hughes, and Future Freakz - they are doing some massive remixes at the moment, myself and UFO have also done a track which featured Laura White from X-Factor so plenty going on at the moment! Also we are hooking up with Squad-E later this year and Chris Unknown at some point if we can fit it in.”
Will the Summit crew be in for any exclusive previews on the night!?;)
“There will be plenty of tracks they don’t know as I like to keep my sets fresh and upfront, as well as a few classics in there so there will be a few cheeky little bits in there.”;)
What words of Supreme power can you shout out to the Summit crew, to rally them to the dance floor of Club Life for the 8th of August!?;)
“2009 has been the best year so far for me as a D.J so far!".. "Hardcore has been great from the south all the way up north so: come on London don’t let the team down lets show the rest of the country that the London crew still believe in the core and lets smash summit on the 8th of august and have a party to remember!!!”.
If you could pick ANY super topping for a awesome Supreme pizza what would it be!??!; )
“It has to be a: Thin Crust, Super Supreme from Dominos with green peppers as the extra topping just for that 'bit of extra flavour'. DeffO with a few garlic and herb dips they are the nuts - just don’t tell the other half, cos I’m supposed to be on a diet.”
Sssssssh!
D.J Supreme it has been first class speaking with you today! - SADLY yet again it has come that time to draw to a close for today, Friday night beer and food is calling from the top shelf… JUST before I crack open the first cold one of the weekend, could you please leave us with some Supreme words of hardcore wisdom…!?;);)
("Never eat yellow snow")("Always drive on the left")("Always keep one eye open if sharing a weekend shallet with Sharkey") - "See you on the 8th of August, I can’t wait to play for the London ravers again.
I would like to take this opportunity in thanking you once again. Thank you for your words today and more importantly your time.
