Uber Coolish Village People
Forgetting the incredibly cliché review title. I thought I’d attempt to give credit where it’s due to yet another night that rocked my socks. Not to be mistaken with the fact that I somehow ended up with a pebble in my sock by the end of the night.

For people who weren’t in the know, a lot like myself. Medicine Bar in Shoreditch has had a bit of a name change and is now gloriously shining bright under the name of East Village and this was the location of my Saturday night.

I heard that East Village was hosting a Prologue creation called Cubercoolische and since I heard that, I decided that it’s where I was gonna spend my 5th of July. After frantically doing the rounds of my phonebook to find out who was up for something at the last minute. All I could muster was the excitement of my little cousin to my exasperation. Not that he’s a bad guy, he’s cool, he’s just… yeah. Anyway I met him at Old Street station and we made our way down to the club.

Having had all of a thirty second wait to get through the doors, we were welcomed with the type of tunes that made you feel like you were stored next to Brains and Captain Scarlet. That feeling that you were adrift in the air and some man moving your legs with strings. I was but a minute into my night and I was already impressed. If this is what Prologue present for a warm up set, then I knew I was going to die by the end of the night.

The beauty of East Village is that it’s able to play with your perception of what a night is meant to be. As I was dancing against the rear wall, I was almost second guessing my actions as I looked upon the bar. However if the rest of the people scattered evenly about the room weren’t going to question it, then I sure weren’t.

As I danced alongside my cousin, trying to teach him some moves (he’s mostly into bashment), I remembered that the club was indeed multi-tier and that there was more that I could attempt to teach him too. We went downstairs and managed to catch an incredible set by XI. It literally killed me to leave as I thought what he was doing was amazing but as I looked about the room, it seemed just a tad too early to really give it the credit it was due and we made our way back to the busier upstairs.

Once we managed to get our spot back from a group of pretty ladies, we went on once again in our attempt to own the dance floor and be one with the music. As people smiled and complimented the DJ. We knew that this was the start of a fantastic night.

We stayed dancing upstairs for several more hours, not disappointed once by the music and as one of the DJ’s dropped a few Latin house tracks, my jaw literally dropped. I couldn’t believe it. Not only was I somewhere that was expressive, it was creative and it felt like every DJ was going above and beyond in a bid to make my night the best they possibly could.

And as I danced there adrift in the waves of the music with a smile upon my face to show the ecstasy of my Saturday night choice, I could only be grateful for the fact I ventured out to let is happen.

As the hours ticked by and the DJ roster cycled through name after name, I couldn’t help but feel happy. A true sense of satisfaction and when I once more went downstairs and saw how nicely filled it was. I became all too aware that it wasn’t only me enjoying the night for everything it was worth, it was everyone.

I saw a guy down there that I was speaking to about French politics outside and we smiles as we high-fived. I walked to the middle of the dance floor, grabbed my spot and just danced what remained of the night away.

I guess that was an awfully long way to recommend a night, but with promoters who know good music, a solid venue and a fantastic crowd. You can’t wrong. The atmosphere went above and beyond expectations and I shall truly recommend the next one. If I managed to make it sound half as good as it was, I know I’ll see you at the next one.

Sounds wicked, mate! I wasn't sure how the Medicine Bar was going to rebrand itself, but I love Prologue and would have made it had I known it was on.

Well up for the next one.
