Playtime Fri Apr 28
EGG'S BIRTHDAY WEEKEND

HEY PRINCESS! WELCOME BACK!

Yep, Egg is three! And while the club itself starts a two-day bender on Saturday, on the Friday we're throwing our own little party for the Playtime crew on a very underground tip - the UK's Tom Neville, the UK debut of San Francisco's Claude von Stroke, and French wunderkid and the terror of shoreditch, Tim Paris!

"Playtime is one of the finest labels to come out of 2005" - iDJ Feb 06

"[Playtime Records artists] Mike Monday and Tom Mangan will be two of the main players of 2006" - DJ Feb 06

"Mike Monday is the remixers' remixer" - Mixmag Nov 05.

"One of clubland's finest inventions" - DJ

Tom Neville (Love Minus Zero)
Claude von Stroke (Dirtybird Recs, San Francisco - UK debut!)
Tim Paris (Marketing Recs, France)
Big Daddy (resident and head honcho)

(Mike Monday is away - but back next month.)

TOM NEVILLE (UK)
Best breakthrough house producer at the house awards off the back of his first single, Just Fuck. Remixes of Mylo, Kelis, New Order, Studio B ... Eight buzz chart #1s ... Tours of practically everywhere - and now his own label, Love Minus Zero with rave reviews. Its second track is by another Playtime favourite, King Roc - The Tip. Reserve your copy now, and see you on the dancefloor for Tom on the 28th...

CLAUDE VON STROKE (SAN FRANCISCO - UK DEBUT)
He calls it avant-house, but it's something that works for DJs worldwide. Claude von Stroke's first track on his own label, Deep Throat, sold 7000 copies on vinyl, was an essential selection, and now even has a terifically funny clip made up of the things that clips should be made of - six foot tall blue birds, dancing washing machines and a bunch of girls in leiderhosen - ya! Since Deep Throat, Claude's followed up with tracks on Get Physical, Om, terrifically fun SF label Utenstil - and now he's touring to support his first artist album, Beware of the Bird. The tour starts in Claude's home town Detroit, ends in Berlin, and Playtime will be his first ever UK gig...

TIM PARIS (PARIS - CONFUSING, NON?)
One of the fun things about running a club is that you can book the DJs you like rather than having to book the DJs that every furry-booted twit in a ritzy will recognise. So welcome to Tim Paris - described as THE up-and-coming talent of 2006 by no less than Ewan Pearson, Ralph Lawson, Kiki and our own Mike Monday. He started through underground parties with Jef K , Chloé , Alexkid and Ivan Smagghe and now he's part of Crack & Speed, which alongside Freak'n'Chic has been one of the biggest underground French labels of the last two years. If you're a DJ, you're already playing his stuff. And if not, you're in for a happy surprise...

And then there's our residents...

MIKE MONDAY
Ya ya - the remixers' remixer. DJ's player of 2006. Half of Playtime Records, which IDJ called "one of the finest labels to come out of 2005" ... Put simply, he's the worst-kept secret in house music - and he's our resident. Don't you wish you had your own Mike Monday? Unfortunately Mike's away this month but he'll be back in May (and PS - his first album's out soon after that...)

BIG DADDY
"My club, my rules" - as Big Daddy says. But they’re not the rules you find at other clubs. For starters, Playtime is one of the last truly mixed nights in London - a throwback to the acid house days when homos and heteros partied together and no-one gave a shit which way you swung. Then there’s the Playtime sound - jackin’, dirty as hell, with a thread of funk running from sparse to deep to robotic to truly twisted. They call it "the club that whacks you on the arse with the racing post and calls you princess" - and as TimeOut says "anyone who takes it too seriously is missing the point..."
