PLAYTIME FRI JUL 28

Mike Monday's album is finally out in the 1st week of Sept. Called Smorgasbord, it's not your usual house producer album. Combining cheeky Big Chill outdoor electronica with Playtime style electronics, it's a trip well outside the usual boundaries of club tracks.

So for the launch, because it's Mike's night we've giving him a four-hour extended set. Plus we're letting him pick his favourite European producers as the guests: Justus Köhncke of Kompakt, the man behind the classic From: Disco 2: Disco, and Tim Paris, the French wunderkind who's part of the half-crazed Crack and Speed label as well as one of the interesting producers of recent years.

Playtime is "the best mixed club in London" - TNT.

"The record label of the moment" - One Week to live.

Tim Paris (Crack and Speed / Marketing)
Big Daddy
Nick Hook (Off the Hook)

...But who ARE these crazy DJ persons?

MIKE MONDAY (RESIDENT)
He's "one of 100 reasons dance music still rocks" - IDJ. He's the star act on Playtime Records, "the label of the moment" - One Week to Live. He's "about to hit critical mass" - Mixmag. And he's been our resident almost since day one. His debut album Smorgasbord is out next month and this month he's playing an extra extra long set ...

JUSTUS KÖNCKE (KOMPAKT / BERLIN)
From punkrock to acid, ballads to techno, "Whirlpool" to "KOMPAKT" - cologne-based producer, singer and DJ Justus Köhncke has surely come a long way. With huge hits including From: Disco 2: Disco (recently remixed by the Mike Monday and the Wighonomy Bros) and Timecode, his tracks have been licensed to countless compilations like Erlend Øye, Steve Bug, DJ Hell and Felix Da Housecat. Recently Justus has remixed Chelonis R. Jones, Ladytron, Mylo, Andreas Dorau, Erasure, Stereo Total and Hot Chip, among others. And right now he's working on brand-new "science fiction disco music". Be prepared! Whether its working at the DJ booth, a club stage, or some grimy bar, Justus is passionate and heartfelt. Never forget why the 4/4-bassdrum was invented in the first place: it is for everyone to share. Everyone.

TIM PARIS (CRACK AND SPEED / PARIS)
He started in the Parisian underground doing parties with Jef K, Chloé, Alexkid and Ivan Smagghe. Then Tim Paris teamed up with Jef K to create the now infamous Crack & Speed label. Working the dancefloor but also developing his skills in the studio, Tim Paris had his first breakthrough with the remix of a rock tune called “Future Now” on 2020 that became a Playtime classic and one of the biggest underground tune of 2005. He's now remixed what we called the "set in outer space" remix of Playtime track "what day is it?" - along with a set of upcoming tunes that are going to blow your mind...

BIG DADDY (RESIDENT)
"My club, my rules" - as Big Daddy says. But they’re not the rules you find at other clubs. For starters, Playtime is one of the last truly mixed nights in London - a throwback to the acid house days when homos and heteros partied together and no-one gave a shit which way you swung. Then there’s the Playtime sound - jackin’, dirty as hell, with a thread of funk running from sparse to deep to robotic to truly twisted. They call it "the club that whacks you on the arse with the racing post and calls you princess" - and as TimeOut says "anyone who takes it too seriously is missing the point..."

NICK HOOK (LOOSEN UP)
In the 90s, Nick Hook's club Loosen Up was one London's most influential clubs with guests like Sasha, Digweed, Darren Emerson, Billy Nasty, Paul Daly (Leftfield) and Tall Paul. And a large part of that club's success was the great sets from its resident, with Nick going on to guest at MoS, Slam andDrum Club - as well as releasing records on his own label "off the hook" and house labels like Kinky Vinyl, Whoop, Stress, DMC and Fresh. He's an old friend of Playtime's and we're looking forward to the set...
