PLAYTIME V AT NIGHT

A little night warehouse action...
"Playtime is one of the finest labels to come out of 2005" - iDJ Feb 06
"[Playtime Records artists] Mike Monday and Tom Mangan will be two of the main players of 2006" - DJ Feb 06
"Mike Monday is the remixers' remixer" - Mixmag Nov 05.
Whoo! In London, when we have a good month, we like to celebrate with a good old warehouse hoedown. YA RLY!
So we welcome ...
At night!
(Spooky, huh?)
It's a warehouse party ... and it's coming to Egg. With Playtime on one floor - including the first set by our new resident Supa DJ Dmitry - and the At Night allstars on the second floor...
Supa DJ Dmitry (Dee Lite / NYC)
Mike Monday (only UK residency)
Insignificant Others (iO Music)
Cheshire Catz (FACT)
Tom Real (Functional)
Big Daddy (resident and head honcho)
SUPA DJ DMITRY
Before there was Dee-Lite, there was the early NYC music scene. Part Paradise Garage, part Kraftwerk, it was the original dressup melting pot. And Dmitry was there in the heart of it, a resident DJ at seminal clubs Shelter and the World - with this band on the side. Until it went #1 with Groove is in the heart - then eleven more #1s in different countries. Dmitry's job? He bought them the dancefloor and that's where he returned when the band split in 95. So welcome our new quarterly resident. Some megastars DJ because they think it's cool. Some because it's lucrative. But Dmitry DJs because he's got shit-hot new music to play. This will be his second time at Playtime - and we're still trying to pull ourselves together after the first...
MIKE MONDAY (RESIDENT)
Ya ya! The remixers' remixer. DJ's "player of 2006". Half of Playtime Records, which IDJ called "one of the finest labels to come out of 2005" ... Put simply, he's the worst-kept secret in house music - and he's our resident. Don't you wish you had your own Mike Monday? Awww, bless. Pity he's ours, huh? And he was on holiday last month in Australia, so this is his first playtime since we took a break in Sept last year. And people
have been waiting...
INSIGNIFICANT OTHERS
It's been one of the fastest rises through the ranks, ever - two highly regarded tracks and suddenly the iOs were warming up for Groove Armada at their festival Lovebox. And now they've got their own label, the surprisingly named iO Music, rave reviews, and a track out in Playtime Records in two months - Me and Silver T - one of the best tracks we've ever been offered and a huge number for the club since the very first time we played it...
CHESHIRE CATZ
The name? From a set of infamous house parties in - of course - Cheshire St in Shoreditch. And alongside Tom Real, they're two of the main movers behind the At Night parties - a set of rolling warehouse jobbies that made the name of quite number of local DJs. But what's making the Catz go at the moment is production - their track with Timo Garcia, Discotech, was a recent Essential selection; they've got a track on the next Bora Bora compilation; they're even remixing the next Coldcut single...
TOM REAL
He started as one of the ignition crew - Tom Neville, King Roc, Matt Williams - playing a mix of house, breaks and techno. It turned into prime-time radio shows on KISS, MoS and trustthedj radio - plus a day job in music to keep every hour focused on what he loves. This year, meanwhile, began with a thousand plus revellers at a 7-day beach festival in the middle of the Atlantic Rainforest in Brazil ... He's the other DJ behind At Night ... and this is his first slot at Playtime...
BIG DADDY (RESIDENT)
"My club, my rules" - as Big Daddy says. But they're not the rules you find at other clubs. For starters, Playtime is one of the last truly mixed nights in London - a throwback to the acid house days when homos and heteros partied together and no-one gave a shit which way you swung. Then there’s the Playtime sound - jackin’, dirty as hell, with a thread of funk running from sparse to deep to robotic to truly twisted. They call it "the club that whacks you on the arse with the racing post and calls you princess" - and as TimeOut says "anyone who takes it too seriously is missing the point..."
