Q: How do you ruin your NYE - A: Go to the EGG
I was in London, my home town, this year for NYE, so friends of mine flew in from Greece to celebrate with me, they wanted to go to the EGG because they remember the fantastic times we used to have there when the EGG was unquestionably the best club in London, you would find me there partying the night away every weekend, but that was in 03, 04 and 05 before it started it's decline into one of the worst clubs in London!

As it had been some time since I had gone to the EGG and my friends really wanted to go there, I thought I would give it another go, so I purchased the tickets way in advance for the 'White Party' event on NYE that promised an 'eye popping production' as the Egg would be transformed into a scene from Rio. (where was that? I wont even start on that!)

I arrived with my friends just before 11pm to make sure we were well inside and partying for the hour of midnight - but when we arrived, it was chaos! the infamous bouncers along with the management team was still getting it all wrong! they looked upon the clubbers in the queue as a nuisance and treated us like arseholes!

When we arrived, there was probably about 80 people infront of us and the cash queue was even worse! to cut a long story short we was still in the queue, cold and soaking wet in the pouring rain at 12pm - I have never seen so many pissed off people on NYE before in my life - everyone was freaking out and shouting, I thought everyone was just going to push and rush the door, it was that bad! and considering that it was boasted ''don't be left out in the cold still queuing to get in when the chimes go at 12am hurry and get your tickets!''

We managed to get in at 12:10pm and I thought it was going to be mega packed inside, but 2 of the floors were EMPTY! so how does that work, we waited well over an hour in the pouring rain and the club was f**king half empty!

A big thankyou to all at the EGG for completely and utterly F**CKING UP our New Year and everyone else's that was in the queue!!

It's so sad that a place I have had some of the best nights of my life in, now just keeps on getting it so wrong! I will NEVER be going back to the EGG!

Hi there ntany,

So sorry you didn't enjoy yourself. I guess as the saying goes you can't please all of the people all of the time.. The overall response has been that people enjoyed themselves immensly - we've had e-mails galore with people thanking us, but like I say that's never going to be the case with everyone when you are holding an event of this size - there will always be the odd few who hated it... That's just the way it is.

The doors opened at 8pm as we wanted people to have the opportunity to get there early and avoid queueing. Unfortunately for us and everyone who had to queue in the rain - it seems like just about every single person who had a ticket chose to show up at 11-11:30pm - and it seems this was the case with yourself. I just guess for future reference you'll now know that to hear the chimes of midnight on NYE (i/e the busiest night of the year in clubland) at one of the top 5 clubs in London - you'll have to give yourself longer than an hour to get in (and I reckon this would be the case anywhere at a club of our size). The door staff worked very hard to get everyone in quickly (and were as polite as possible considering the abuse which was being hurled at the every 5 seconds) so I they did a very good job all things considered.. But I do apologise that you had to wait so long - I hate queueing myself, its a real fucker and a big downside to clubbing in London within the festive period.

With regard to you saying the club was empty I'm not sure how this was possible when we had over 1,000 people in the venue at 12 O'Clock... So can't really answer that one. We had Brazillian dancers, musicians and acts all around the venue - the garden and much of venue was decked out in white, we gave away freebies to people wearing white and there was a little fireworks show too.. Maybe you missed all of this? Did you even go into the new part of the venue too?

Anyway - from the way you have written its obvious you have no desire to come here again and its pointless me trying to convince you, so I can only again say I'm sorry you seemed to not enjoy the evening - but best of luck for 2008.. If you do however change your mind and fancy coming down on a night that is less hectic in the clubbing calendar I'll happily sort you and your friends some free entry.. So just drop me a mail x Melissa x

Hi Melissa,

Thanks for your response, it warms me a little to know that you have taken the care and the time to respond to my posting - We are now firmly into 2008, so I think we'll just let sleeping dogs lie on this one...x

If I do warm a little more and decide to give EGG another go, I will indeed take you up on your kind offer.

Many thanks for your kind wishes and I would also like to wish you all the health, fun and happiness for 2008!

Dan x

Melissa,

I must admit I also found Egg very dissappointing this New Year. Last year I went to The Cross...it opened at 9pm and by 10pm the dance floor was packed. This New Year my friend and I arrived at 9pm assuming that the club would be filling up after the advertised 8pm opening time. However, on arrival we were made to stand outside until 9.15pm because the club wasn't ready to open....we were the first people into the club !

Then after a few drinks we decided to hit the dancefloor.....only to find none of the rooms opened until 11pm !!!! I agree that it filled up a bit closer to midnight, but that only seemed to be the one room and it certainly wasn't like the Egg of old with all 3 floors packed to capacity.

I know i arrived at 1:30 so missed the midnight hour but the place was fantastic. Considering i didn't leave until 12:00 tells me i was having the best time. Great party, beautiful people and a musical journey that is second to none. I love the new space with it's own courtyard. The egg is growing!

Last year I went to The Cross...

Lucky for you that you didn't go there this year though eh? Can't believe all the complaints I've read on this site about NYE! The club wasn't PACKED to bursting point on New Years eve - it was nicely busy.. I dont see this as a downside to be honest - there was anoother room which held 600 people opened so this made sure that people weren''t packed in like sardines.. I personally hate going out when its like that as you cant walk around, get in a toilet or get to the bar.. Very annoying.

- Thanks for your kind comments dibbit..! Mail me on: melissa@egglondon.net and I'll happily sort you concession entry price anytime you want to come down x
