The Formula for a fantastic Easter Egg!
I want to write something that shows a special appreciation of my night and to be honest; right now I’m still at a loss for words to describe it. For me it was everything that clubbing was supposed to be and that was with a few reservations before hand. Earlier that day one of my friends text me and asked me where I was that night, I said I was at Formula and they asked if it was gonna be good, my answer; “I haven’t got a clue”. My previous Formula was alright but that was it, (in hindsight it was ) just alright and it left me wondering if I was willing to vouch for the next one, I said “come down, if it’s shit don’t blame me but if it’s good remember who told you” and said friend came down and was awed by it all.

Formula and Egg is a match made in heaven, I actually honestly 100% promise you that. The layout of the club is perfection for vibe that is the Formula crowd and everything just fell into place perfectly. I mean I mentioned reservations didn’t I and one of those was about the music. I’m a big fan of vocals and so many things at the moment are touting themselves as maximal (in regards to the vocals) and when you get there it’s either boring or a rendition of a ‘Pure Funky House’ CD. This was far from that. But musical preferences aside, there was one DJ that I weren’t sure was up to the task of Formula. It was Lewi Five 0, Lewi’s done some great sets in the time I’ve heard him but I’ve seen him bomb from the most basic of mistakes. It had been a little while since I saw him step up to the plate and I can’t lie, on my way there I was thinking to myself, why didn’t they get someone else to do it. But upon getting there until the time his set finished he absolutely destroyed it. Showed great crowd understanding and was on the ball from start to finish.

See the basement where Lewi was, was all about music that was easily accessible, not that it was pop but it weren’t exactly cutting edge and so finding that middle ground between the overtly obscure and cheesy weren’t gonna be an easy task but as I was there DJ after DJ (Lewi Five 0, Alex Miles and Steve Smart) was nailing it to perfection. Congratulations to them all, Nathan Hedley, Sonny Wharton, James Talk, Jack Barham, Jnr J, Alex Miles, Steve Smart and especially Lewi Five 0 who had me dancing within thirty seconds of getting onto the dance floor. Based on those sets alone I’d recommend them for anywhere.

And to talk about the garden, I’ll tell you, heaters matter in this cold but the real warm feeling was the love everyone was getting. I literally spent about an hour straight in the garden pissing about with total strangers, but thanks to the night it felt like these were people I’d known and had been around for a time. This is what clubbing was all about, you come out, meet new people, dance and have a good time. I got to do that so thanks to Formula there.

I actually spent most of my night, when I weren’t in the garden doing the social thing, in the Terrace (middle room) after I left the basement and it was sheer ecstasy (as in really good). I don’t want to bore you all to death with it all but I mean I had an outstanding time for the whole night. Not only do I have a reignited love affair with Formula but I also I have to give props to Egg on making the right choice once again for the promotions they put on. It seems that they’re all about the clubbing experience as opposed to raking it in at any cost and in allowing Formula to put on such a fantastic night, they’ve more than come through.

Oh and I haven’t even gone into the whole After-party thing but that deserves a separate review and I’ll let someone else do that, but that was equally impressive. A big thanks goes out to all of the Formula staff, all of the DJ’s and a separate but huge thanks goes out to the attendee’s. Thanks all for gifting me a fantastic night and it was a night to remember. As I club-goer, I really couldn’t have asked for more. A perfect Easter Thursday/Good Friday.

Thanks for the kind words Sabre!
I have to say i myself have heard great things about Formula and this one was my first actually playing!
I have played @ Formulate before which was a new after party experience for me!

I have to say from a dj's point of view i couldnt have asked more from a crowd!
Responsive and up for it from the word go!
I dont usuallly do warm up sets as my style doesn't suite, this may have been 2200-0000 but it was no warm up, i think the crowd had done 2 laps of the club and stretched in the garden as when they got in my room they went off straight away!

After my set i enjoyed the music that was being played on all 3 floors and its not often i am impressed by other dj's but i have to say i really enjoyed Sonny Whartons set, real good choice of music and great tempo!

So, anyone looking for a great House night with great music and even better crowd run by a very good promotional team then head down to the next FORMULA, i promise you'll have a great time!
